I dont read the boards for a few days and come back to find all these BFP! CONGRATULATIONS LADIES!!! Last Wed Dh and I met with an RE.

To make a long story short he basically said we should bypass IUI and go right to IVF.

He said we have about a 3% chance of conceiving on our own, and we are at high risk for having an ectopic

He doesn't have much faith in Dh's surgery helping his count.

He was concerned that the endo that was on my ovaries, will come back and damage my ovaries more jeopardizing my future eggs.

He said we can try IUI after my get dh's SA results (cant do the sample till late Jan early Feb bc of his surgery. But he feels like we will be wasting money.

He recommends I go on high dose of birth control to "shut down" everything until we save money for IVF.

Right now i'm not too sure what to think. He totally knocked the wind right out of my sail.

I'm so angry. If the odds are stacked to greatly against us. Why did my pregnancy have to end in miscarriage?

I have an apt with my gyno Dec 30th to discuss our RE apt. We wont make any decisions until we get Dh's new SA.

With stuff that's this serious, I think a second opinion is a good idea.

I know how disheartening that can be to be told to stop trying and go on BCP. I would definately talk to your Dr and see what is going on. I skipped IUI and then I had 4 unsuccessful IVF cycles only to go on and get pregnant on my own. So it does not work for everyone and it is very costly. Good luck with your decision.

Karen I'm so sorry that the RE said that. I know that my previous doctor told me DH and I would have a very slim chance of ever getting pg on our own. Well I have been pg a total 6 times, some with the help of Clomid and Metformin. Maybe if it is an option seek another opinion? And also try researching natural remedies. I know Brandi(Angel_Maker) posted a list on the TTCw/MA board about natural remedies and maybe they would work for you. Please don't give up or get discouraged. I know how hard it is hearing that news but the doctors aren't always right. HUGS!

I agree a second opinion could help.
I know the two biggest RE's in my area can disagree many times on a patients issues.

Wow, very tough news to take! I would definitely wait to decide anything until his S/A comes back. We are dealing with MFI and I have PCOS so our chance on our own, without Clomid or IUI is less 1%. It doesn't go up much with IUI but it does make our chances better. My DH's numbers seem to go up and down with every test so even if his numbers come back, I'd go for a 2nd S/A if possible. We also found DH's numbers were best if we had sex 24 hours prior to him giving his sample (we got pregnant with IUI that way) rather than waiting the 36 to 72 hours like the doctors recommend.

I hope that a different doc will give you more hope!

Karen is there any way you can go for a second opinion to another RE? I would if it's possible because you never know what possibilities are out there and what else another DR might pick up on that this Dr hasn't.

I think if anything they want you to get your wish and not waste the time with the IUI, but at the same time it wouldn't hurt just to see if another doctor thinks along those same lines? It's just a thought, if you're not happy with what he said you need to be able to know what your options are from anothe professional

Please keep us posted!!!
