Hi ladies.
I started having testing for my recurrent m/c back in October. At that time I had TSH drawn twice and they were good numbers, 1.6 and 2.1. I've been going for cycle monitoring and on Tuesday my TSH was 4.78!!
Does anyone have experience/knowledge from their doctor about this. Apparently it's within the range that doctors have been using forever, but I have also read that for fertility purposes it should be lower, like around 2 or lower. I saw my RE after the test, and she didn't mention it so I assume she thinks it's ok?

So I guess I have a two part question:
1) does anyone know why it would fluctuate like that - going from under 2 to almost 5? I'm not taking thyroid meds and the tests were done at the same clinic (I don't know if they send them to different labs)
2) what do you know about TSH levels and what they should be? Have your doctors given you info on what it should be?

Thank you and Merry Christmas?

Judy, I had some similar questions about fluctuating TSH levels, but it really just seems like they can and do fluctuate in a lot of people. One reason could be changing anti-thyroid antibody levels, which they can also do a blood test for. As far as the numbers, I had a test in February that was around 1 and was surprised that in September my test came back with TSH around 5. My doctor (an RE) keeps all his fertility patients below 2.5, so now I am on Synthroid and my levels are back around 1... I definitely think you should ask around and find a doctor that will be more proactive about your levels.
