Hi ladies,

Does anyone know just how fast hcg drops immediately following a D&C? I'm just a little curious, as when I went in for my last blood draw before my last ultrasound, my levels were somewhere around 76,000 (this was a month ago) and then I had my D&C a week later (3 weeks ago). My OB told me last week to expect AF in the next 4-6 weeks, which is the normal response, but I'm just sort of wondering if I'm waiting for levels over 75000 to drop to zero before I ovulate, or if the "pre m/c" hormone level decreases significantly when the m/c and/or D&C takes place, and maybe I'm just waiting for a much lower level to drop to zero. Can't seem to find the answers anywhere online, and my doc didn't check my levels or anything when I went in for my 2 week follow up last Tuesday.

I know that there's no exact science for when ovulation takes place after a loss...but still would be nice to know if I'm waiting for some giant number to get to zero or if its a little more manageable. :-) I'm just very impatient to get started TTCing again :-)

I did take an hpt this morning, and it still showed positive, so I'm not at zero yet, but my body is acting very ovulatory so I'm hoping its soon.

Can't help you too much with numbers but my cycles started normally after about 6 weeks after all of my D&C's.

I didn't get blood tests, and I can't remember when my tests went negative, but i'd say it was around 4 weeks before they were all the way negative...I also didn't get my period till almost 2 months after my D&C...Good luck!

I tested 2 weeks after the D&C and my test was negative... I baby passed away some where in the 8 week mark. My A/F came 6 weeks to the day of my D&C.

I didn't have a D&C, but I had my levels tested after a week of spotting/bleeding which wound up being the day before I passed my baby and then again two days after the baby passed. They went from 30,644 to 8,065. After that, they halved about every 2-3 days or so. About four weeks after the first draw, I was down to 14 and I had just finished my first period.

I would imagine a D&C would cause a sharper drop right away than I had, but that there still would be some hormones left.

I didn't have a D&C, but my numbers have gone like this:

12/8 - 9800 (this is when I went to the emergency room and found out I was going to miscarriage), numbers were already in decline at this point because I was supposed to be 9 weeks pregnant
12/10 - had actual miscarriage
12/16 - 850
12/20 - 250
12/22 - 130

As of yesterday a pregnancy test shows only the faintest line. I don't go for another blood test until Wednesday (tomorrow), so I don't know what they will be. They must be getting close to 0 and it's been just over 2 weeks since my miscarriage.

On oct 1st I was 13 weeks pregnant and we found out the baby passed away the day before, and the baby was 13 weeks in size, so I am sure that my hcg was nice and high, although I didn't have my blood tested at that time. Then I went in for a d&c on oct 5th....then at my two week appt on oct 19th they tested my blood and the hcg was all the way down to 49. So it dropped really really fast. I was acutally really surprised by it. My af showed up right on time after only 4 weeks and has been normal since then. I hope this helps you...

I was going to say that even though you are still getting positive tests, you can get your period. That will help clean out anything that is left. My case is a little different because of the type of m/c I had. I was originally induced and still bled/spotted for 10 weeks. I had an u/s and it showed retained tissue.

I had a D&C and almost 4 weeks exactly I had my first AF. My hcg was around 70 or 50. If you don't start after next week, you may want to call your dr. if you are still getting positive tests to check your hcg level.

A week before my D&C (D&C was on Oct 13) my hcg was 150,000. One day after the D&C, it was 11,000. So there was a huge drop right away. BUT my D&C wasn't complete and I didn't get to negative until mid December, after I had had one post D&C AF, and then once my hcg reached negative I started bleeding again and got rid of the retained tissue.
You don't need hcg to reach zero in order to ovulate (as you probably already know). According to my charts I ovulated the cycle I had the D&C (about 3 weeks after the D&C), then had AF 5 weeks after the D&C, then ovulated for sure the next cycle (confirmed by u/s) 2.5 weeks into the next cycle. You can look at my charts to see what I mean.

Thank you so much for the information! Exactly what I was looking for. Its amazing that with all the info out there on the internet, sometimes the exact info still is hard to find. And you all helped me out immensely!

I'm a little concerned that I Oed yesterday, since I am one of those who cramp when I ovulate, and I was having some serious cramping on my left side, lots of boob pain. I'm only concerned because DH and I had some Christmas relations without protection...must have been the Christmas spirit, and, well, a very impatient DH... :-)

Oh well, I suppose we'll see what happens.

Update to my earlier one, it's 12/29 and I am down to 19. I figure I have about a week and a half left. My doctor wants me to keep up the pelvic rest until I get to 0. :/
