Has anyone ever felt the urge to start purchasing things like diapers and plain white onsies, other needed things for the future?

I want to be prepared, started stressing having to purchase everything at once when I was pregnant that now I sorta just want to create a stockpile of the simple needed things for the future. Sounds like self torture I know, it is in some small way... but if I can get ready now then hopefully when we do get our super gorilla glued sticky rainbow baby then we won't feel so stressed about the things we will have to purchase. If anything at all... something here and there that way it's a slow build of things. Except for gender specific items... of course.

Yes, we're probably going to be trying again.... DH even said that he knew I was bitter and angry when I said I was DONE. Called me out on that one, but at that moment I really felt like I was, forever.

I know the feeling honey! It's getting close to tax time, and I keep thinking--well, as long as I get pregnant when we have our tax money (and not spent it yet) then we'll be okay, with getting all the baby stuff we need (and even don't need, but want lol) but, if it's after tax time, then what they heck are we gonna do?

Like you said, it a small version of self torture, but you just never know.

THANK YOU!!! Same here! That's something too, tax time... we could use some of the money to buy stroller/car seat set... geeze!

Ya I was telling my mom before we knew for sure we were going to lose bean that every other week I wanted to start picking something up so by the end of pregnancy we wouldn't need much of those things.

Great idea, not sure if I would have the guts to do it. I still have the bathtub duckies and a few things I bought the baby back in 2009 stuffed away with my maternity clothes....

You are such a brave girl.

I have been thinking about this a lot, Celena. I want to cloth diaper, and it would be really smart to get a stock going now, rather than later. But I haven't done it yet because I am terrified of still not being pg by the time we move out of this house in 2 years and having to move boxes of unused baby stuff. I just don't know what to do.

And I'm so glad you're feeling more positive about trying, Celena!

thanks, I'm trying to be... somehow.

Ya Missy, Nicole,... that fear of what if it never happens sits nagging in the back of my mind. I'm trying to be optimistic. I guess if never worked out there's always eBay :/

It might not be as fun, but if I were you, I would suggest that instead of actually buying things, you put the money away in the bank. Set aside what you can afford to set aside, open up a new savings account or something, let it collect interest, then later on, you can go on a guilt-free shopping spree Plus if you start buying now then what are people going to do at your shower? You have to leave room for the people who love you to show it!

If you do decide to start buying though, I can tell you that DH and I have a room full of baby stuff, and it doesn't hurt. I never go in there and wallow in a pile of newborn onesies, I don't sit on the floor and put the swing back together, I don't put diapers on teddy bears... It's not like a scene from a movie. It's all stowed away in the closet, waiting for Drew's little brother or sister. Thank God though that we didn't have a crib. We had a bassinet, which we were able to break down and fit in the closet as well. If we had a crib that might be hard.

we plan to pick up a few of the larger things around tax time (like crib, dresser/changing table and swing). then after that we will be picking up diapers, wipes and neutral clothing and items. that way later we wont have to worry about as much and can just buy the gender based items we need. and if by some chance it never happens i can always donate it or sell it or hold onto for when/if my little brother (he is 20) has any. with my last we always talked about getting this one thing at a time to make it easier and never did, so she ended up with well used second hand stuff and hand me downs from her sisters. since this will be our last baby i want to go all out and get the nice things. so we will be putting the cart well before the horse on this one and using our taxes to get a nursery ready

You ladies are much more brave than me. I was over 20 weeks pregnant and still refused to buy anything!!!!!!! DH did finally wear me down around 24 weeks, but it was just a very few things.

I do second Erin's suggestion. We ended up not buy much at all for Bourne- it was all given to us at our showers. We ended up taking a lot of stuff back and will end up with well over $100 in store credits. The only thing we didn't get at the showers were our cloth diapers which we will buy at tax time. He was too small for them until this week.

Kat.

I never bought anything when I wasn't pregnant.. except a pack of wet ones..I liked the package. But when I was pregnant.. (the three losses) I did pick up a few little things. And When I lost the baby... It just sat in the closet... and I added to it. When I had the girls... I had a few things I couldn't use.. (Christmas outfits that were too big.. and will be too small come next year... So I gave them away. (I was torn as to what to do with them.. So I decided my Angel baby would want a earth Angel to have them)...

I admit it, after my loss, I wanted a baby so bad that I bought some baby stuff just so I would have hope. I haven't bought any big items yet, which I will have to eventually, but I have a few onsies and CD's tucked away.
I already told DH that for our tax return this year, after we pay everything off (still paying for the mc in July) that I'm taking some of the money and getting some gift cards at a baby store. I probably won't be buying anything big for awhile but I want to know I can at any time.

I do buy baby stuff all the time...I already had a lot since I was so far a long when I had Ella...So I already have a ton of girls things...I have some unisex clothes, but mostly pink (i'm hoping for another girl)...Today at target I bought a pack of super cute onesies and matching bibs that were on clearance...The other day I bought a pack of red, white, black socks that look like little shoes...They match some lady bug outfits I had for Ella...Call me crazy, but I have baby stuff already set up in my room waiting...Looking at baby things gives me hope (some days it depresses me, but not often)...Plus i'll have a ton of stuff already when I do have a baby...Having 4 kids already, it's most likely that no one will give us a shower (no one did with my son even though he was our first boy and we had to start over) so i'm pretty much on my own...So when I see things on sale, I pick them up ...It gives me something to do I guess...I was thinking of taking some pictures of what i've bought in the last week...I love looking at them! (Of course I had to run into people I knew when I was buying the socks...My DH said they probably think i'm nuts lol)

All the time! I have already picked out furniture and little outfits. My hubby makes me put them back though when we go to the store. (That's why I don't take him!) When we move into our new house (or if we do...STILL FREAKING WAITING TO CLOSE!!), I want to set up the 4th bedroom as the baby room/guest room. My sister just got her tubes tied and her youngest turned one last month (it kills me that she did that only after 2 kids), and she said that I could have a lot of her baby stuff. She has all designer stuff too (must be nice to have money!). Still, part of enjoying it is buying your own stuff. Celena, you do what makes you happy and if you need to cry in the baby department, do it. I do it all the time. Plus it keeps people from talking to me.

I don't know, I have a fear of buying stuff. I do have a lot of baby stuff saved from my 7 year old dd, though, because I was pretty sure we'd have another kid.

I'm glad to hear you are going to try again, though, Celena. I think we all go through that "I'm done" stage for a bit.

I have a big fear of buying things and never being able to use them. With the first pregnancy I had everything picked out I wanted for nursey but I never did buy anything. With this last pregnacy I didn't even get a chance to get used to the idea. Now I am just scared to buy things.

Celena, I love that you are staying postive and that you are going to try again.

I have picked up things over the past 2 years that I couldn't pass up and are packed away for when I have a baby. I know my mom thinks I'm torturing myself when I do it but honestly it just makes me keep pushing forward. Your so brave and strong Celena and I truly look up to you!

I have a hard time not buying stuff. I think Erin's idea is the most sensible, but sometimes it's hard to resist the temptation.

Before DS the only thing I bought was a blanket. It was kind of my symbol for the baby I wanted. I'm Pagan, so it actually was with me a lot, while TTC.
I bought it during our wedding/honeymoon trip. So it was extra special.
I haven't bought anything for baby #2 yet. I have tons of stuff obviously from DS, and I will most likely wait till I know the sex. But that blanket has been brought out again. I also have a baby spell/wish candle still from before DS. (it's a homemade egg shaped candle with baby charms in it). Haven't decided if I should use it or make new ones as well as get something new for a new baby...
Sorry went off on a tangent there.
