I had my RE follow-up today and it turns out I tested positive for Anticardiolipin Antibody Syndrome. He DID say that it could have been related to my latest loss (like my body was still recovering and gave a positive when I normally would not test positive) and that we are running a second test to confirm the first one. But, it all fits (the D/C with tons, tons of clots, the repeated pregnancy loss, the platelets being raised at various blood-draws in the past). He said he thinks that this is the cause of my losses, although can't really explain how Liam got here safe and sound. It could have been that it did not catch on until later and that is why he came early and had a really clotty placenta. But I am not looking to find a reason why he is here. I just feel lucky to have him. And really lucky that the treatment to this is pretty easy. I will be taking progesterone, luvenox? (something like that), and a baby asprin when I get pregnant. That should keep the fetus protected from my own white cells attacking it.
I also do have a blocked left tube. Although he thinks it is only partially blocked (the HSG dye would not go thru), since I have pregnancies back-to-back. Chances are the microscopic egg is making it through somehow. He was not worried about that at all.
So...good news all around. I will have to see a rheumetologist, a high-risk OB, and him during pregnancy. But it was *kind of* a relief to hear that it might be fixable and that it is not something horrible or irreversible. So we are waiting on the second round of labs to confirm...but he said it did fit with my symptoms and it was one of the only things he thought might be the issue (aside from uterine scarring). Whew...hopefully once we get our ducks in a row, we can have a healthy rainbow baby!! We will try this month, but won't know about the final test/follow up until after I am possibly pregnant. But he encouraged trying and said to call as soon as I test positive (if so).
Thanks for all the support ladies. It helps so much having you here to walk through this with me.
