Okay so I moved to PA in December 09 and kept all of my care in NJ because I couldn't seem to get a hold of any OBs in PA. In July I stopped taking the mini-pill because it drove my body insane, and in September I found out I was pregnant. I had already had a gyn appointment and I called them to switch it to an OB appointment but they said that their OBs bills were full, there was no room for a new patient apparently. I called a local birth center that apparently you needed to jump through hoops to join AKA make an orientation appointment for one of the VERY few dates available and the soonest appointment, I would be 12 weeks. I went to the gyn and he checked my hcg levels and ordered an ultrasound but he said that was as much as he could do. I got the ultrasound at 7 weeks and the heartrate was 156, all looked healthy. I hit 12 weeks and went to the birth center's orientation only to find out that I'd had the times wrong and they wouldn't work with me so I found a different birth center that I wish I'd known existed beforehand.
Their midwife consulted my about my miscarriage over the phone, suggested a D&E and told me what needed to be done, despite my not even being her patient yet. I already liked them. I had to have my D&E elsewhere because they don't perform them and then I waited on the checkup until I'd be comfortable seeing other pregnant women.
Fast-forward to the appointment there last night, my first appointment since the gyn visit since the 5.5 weeks pregnant in September and about 7 weeks after my D&E, the midwife said that usually they check levels right after but since I'm already having AF, that's not a worry. She consulted me on other things instead...
(here's the part that matters since I'm rambling lol)
She said that I only had to wait one cycle to TTC and that waiting two cycles is "old-fashioned" which made me feel great because we'll have waited two cycles, so it'll be like an extra one. I explained to her that the doctor who did my procedure thinks there was a virus going around and it was affecting the women's otherwise healthy placenta (I'm assuming he meant like you have the flu and don't know it and it was hurting your placenta? No idea, it was just nice to have an answer back then.) and she said that she thinks that sounds like low progesterone. I asked her if my progesterone could end up low even after two healthy pregnancies and she said a lot of things affect progesterone and that a lot of times low progesterone is the cause of a miscarriage. So on Saturday, they're sending me to get bloodwork done (because I'll be on CD 21 and she says that's the best day) to check my progesterone levels because if they're low, they'll treat it. She told me to take folic acid, which I was planning to pick up this week anyway. She really sounds like she's going to do her best to help me stay pregnant when I do and I really love that! She sat and answered so many questions for me and even helped me out with my charting, since I'm totally new to it. I just feel so much better!
