The TTCWMA board reminded me (and I learned new things!) that out of pocket medical bills may be tax deductible. Wouldn't want anyone to miss out on a deduction!

oh wow! I did pay a lot out of pocket, does that count for what you pay AFTEr insurance, or only if you don't have insurance? I'm not even sure I kept my bills though.

I'm in Canada, so I didn't pay for any hospital bills, but we do claim the portion that my insurance doesn't cover for prescriptions (they cover 80%)

I don't even know the total of everything we paid this last year (and what we still owe), but I need to file early so I can finish paying off what we owe, so I can't wait till Feb ...Last year's tax return went to paying medical bills, and this year will too...It sucks!

Anything you pay out of pocket, whether you are insured or not, counts. Premiums are also deductible. The only thing is that it has to exceed a certain percentage of your income, unless they have changed that.

IRS Link to explanation of what is covered. There might be a worksheet in there too, but I didn't look very hard. We never meet the minimums because we make too much money.

Seriously Megan you should pay them $50 a month and take your tax returns, buy yourself a new dress - go out to dinner with DH - and then have a fun night of DTD just because!!! With all of the s*&^ you have been through you deserve to have a fun night like that. You will be surprised what it brings back into your relationship.

Again, just my 2 cents....

Thanks missy....i'm sure we'll have left over...I'm starting to get bill collectors calling me ugh...I paid everything up till May, but then DH's work got really slow and we've been living pay check to pay check...Then of course I had another hospital bill for July and lots of bills for ultrasounds etc from my last miscarriage...I just want to get it all paid off and be done with it...I have to resend in DH's pay check stubs for May, June and July to the hospital...I applied months ago for assistance with my 2 hospital bills...They want them resent in by next week...not sure what happened to the other ones I sent in *eyeroll*...I just hate oweing money, especially for pregnancy's/babies that I didn't even get to have ...Everything i've paid in the last year and a half, has cost more than it would of cost for a normal pregnancy/birth...it's frustrating!

My insurance sucked, but now I'm on my husband's insurance and it pays everything. We were on my insurance for about 5 years . . . and we paid so much out of the pocket. We probably could have gotten a lot back if I had saved all my bills back then!

That is what caller ID is for I thought I would never say anything like that but sheesh, ones mindset really changes fast when placed in a different scenario. They can wait, just make sure you do something nice for yourself, you deserve it. ((Hugs))
