My neighbor and friend is pg after a loss in September and she just found out she has a bicornuate uterus through and ultrasound. She had some bleeding and is now on doctor-imposed bed rest and has to take it easy for the first trimester.

She showed me the picture and the baby is implanted on the smaller part of her uterus, it seems. She's definitely worried. Any positive experiences with this that I can share with her?

Thanks in advance!

I have never heard of that before but I hope she is ok! Give her big hugs and buy her some good magazines to entertain her.

With my middle son I had placenta previa for most of the 1st and 2nd trimester so I was on bedrest. He is a sarcastic, funny, loving 18 year old now so lets hope the best for her.

I've heard of it - one of my best friends has it, but she hasn't gotten pg yet. The only issue I know of is if the baby implants on the septum, which is the piece of tissue that divides the uterus into two parts. I've read that if the baby implants on the "normal" walls of the uterus, even if it is in an area that looks smaller, it is OK bc everything stretches out to accomodate the growing baby.

If it implants on the septum, it usually ends in a loss bc that area is very thin and doesn't have much blood flow (from what I've heard, I'm not a dr. though!!).

I have bicornuate uterus. I had a misscarriage due to the implantation was in the wrong place in the uterus. As Toots216 has said when it implants in the right spot where the bloodflow is good the growth of the baby will stretch the uterus and its walls. I am no doctor either but my OBGYN said that as long it implants right then there is a high chance that all will work out for the best.

My mom's stillbirth at 21 weeks was because of this, and probably her 3 miscarriages too. Sorry I don't have anything positive to share. With Bethany, the placenta started to pull away as the uterus was stretching funny and was bleeding and it got infected and almost killed my mom.

They didn't have ultrasounds or anything back then though, so they didn't know there was a problem or they probably could have helped it. So hopefully since they know this early her story has a better ending.

Thank you everyone!

She can go back to work tomorrow but she's going to have to switch jobs for a while because she works in a grocery store and does heavy lifting.

I'm not sure where the baby implanted but from memory it might be on the septum. I probably won't tell her the bad stories. She is already so worried.

I said I'd stop by if she wants some company. We usually have Starbucks hot cocoas so I might bring her one but mostly I'd just like to be there if she needs someone.

Awe I'm sure she's terrified because not too many people have heard of that, I've read about it briefly and the new OB/GYN who I'm trying to get into treats ladies for that it's on their list of gyn treatment of issues.

I hope that in her case she does not lose this little one, altho it is a fact that it can be cause for recurrent loss or preterm birth... but those are the extremes of what can happen it does NOT mean this will happen to her.

All you can do is be there with and for her right now, hopefully relieving her of some of her worry. I'm sure she's done her own googling tho... so gently remind her that altho it may be a possibility she's not doomed to a negative ending.
