I used to be a "regular" in a chatroom (I was 18 lol)...Well DH liked to come in and annoy everyone (I guess he was kind of trollish), and honestly I couldn't stand him...Then one day he sent me an IM pretending to be someone else, but then I found out it was him...I can't remember exactly how it happened, but he called me on the phone a few times...We didn't live in the same city...I went to housesit at my uncles in seattle, and I was bored, and we met, and we've been together ever since...We met May 1, 1998, just a few months after I turned 18...I moved in with him in July, then we got a better apartment in September, and then I got pregnant with my oldest daughter that month...We got Married October 16,1999...Honestly, i'm surprised most days that we are still together LOL...It's not that romantic...We also met without seeing a picture of eachother before hand lol

I met my hubby online too, and I love to hear stories about other couples who met that way.
Our story:
A close friend of mine was joining a site but because we lived in a smaller town, she was convinced that if she joined alone it would be easier for weirdos to find her. She talked me into joining even though I laughed at her when she suggested it and assured her "You won't find someone you want to DATE, let alone someone you want to MARRY!" Less than 1 year later I had packed up my car with whatever would fit (including 2 young children) and moved half way across the country to be with the man who is now my husband. That was 5 years ago (yeah, we started TTC immediately once we moved in together) and I wouldn't change a thing!

Stephanie - congrats on your weight loss! A few of us here are losing weight as well.
So tell us, was it in a chat room or on a dating website? I think that is super sweet.

Here is our story. It is kind of funny we met online since Dh hates computers and really dosen't know how to move around on a computer. He is a iron worker so he has never really had a use for computers. His dad passed away couple of years ago. Which Dh and his dad were super close. He took it real hard and started drinking way to much and really didn't care about anything. After about a year of this his one sister talked him into putting an personal ad on Yahoo Personal's. I was on Yahoo Personal's looking around one day and came across his profile and picture. I thought he had cute eyes. I sent him a message and his sister helped him to send me a message back. We talked couple of times through Yahoo then he asked me for my phone number. We talked on the phone couple of times then we finally had our first date and we have been together ever since. The sister that helped him put the ad on Yahoo said I helped save him. He stopped drinking so much and he cares about everything now. We have a lot in common. Both of us lost our dads. Both of our mom's have (had) bad heart problems. For the ones that don't know. I lost my mom March 22, 2010. We got married April 24, 2010. I think in a lot of ways we were ment to be together. I don't think I would have been able to handle my mom's passing if it wasn't for dh.

Wow! There are quite a few folks in here who have found their SO online I did too.
Mine was all about Facebook. My hubby kept friend requesting me and I would not let him be my friend...I would email him back something ridiculous and try to scare him away saying "he did not know what he was getting into" and that I was "a psycho." But he kept at it and I did let him be my friend. We met to go to a movie a couple times (just casual friend thing) and then I went back with my ex for about eight months (STUPID! Lol). Pretty much as soon as me and the ex broke things off for good, there he was again...asking me out and "harassing" me. I teased him about it and did relent to an "actual date." And we never looked back. I got pregnant with Liam about 8 months after our "first date" and we decided to get married. Not terribly romantic, but it works for us and I am very glad we are together.
These stories are soooo cute, btw

Great stories!
My story
--------------------------
I met my husband on a BBS (bulletin board system) in 1986/1987. BBSs were pre-internet. You would use a modem to dial into someone else's computer and you could post messages to something similar to a forum and you could play games and things like that. Some of the wealthier BBS owners had multiple phone lines, so you could chat with people.
I was not very popular in my school, but in the world of BBSs, I was a rarity, a female. So, I got a lot of attention and because there were no images (all text based), people judges you on how you acted and not what you looked like, which was great. The modemers (what we called ourselves) would sometimes have picnics to meet up with each other and let me tell you, there were some REALLY nerdy types on the boards. Anyway, I was 17 and my husband was 14. I had absolutely zero interest in him at all.
Fast forward about 3-4 years and I was at another modem party, while home from college and my husband walked in and I thought to myself, "Who is that???". I was very interested but he had a girlfriend (a really psycho GF). Oh well.
Then, 2 years after that (1994), I called up to talk to a friend of his and got Dan (husband) instead and we talked and I invited myself up to visit all of them at college. It was a great weekend, despite my car breaking down somewhere between Charlotte, NC and Frostburg, MD and having to get a rental car and then buy a new one before I could go home. We've been together for 16 years and married for 10. Our son is 5.

I love these stories! How cool! Wow, I did not realize how many people really met online. I was a single mom for 13 years and used a few dating websites (pleanty of fish, yahoo, match.com) and went on a few dates, even had a short term boyfriend from it but wow....
This is fun!

i think it is going to become the norm very soon. fewer people are getting married after college which is when you have the most to "choose" from. after that - the pickens get slim! it is a wonderful way for really great people to find others who match up! - ugh imagine having to go thru the bar scene at 30??
i have 2 friends who have met on line and are now married with kids

when I first met DH it wasn't common, so I would lie about how we met...I still do to some people lol Yes I agree that it's really common now.

With Matt and I it was a free dating site. (Bookofmatches). They had games, chat rooms, and forums. I mostly just chatted in the forums, especially the political debate ones, and that's where we "met".
Missy, I've been shocked at how quickly the weight is coming off. DH and I are both using the SlimFast 3-2-1 plan right now. I have ALOT to lose and I am using this to kind of jumpstart that weightloss.

Didn't have a chance to share my story earlier
I had joined 2 Christian sites, one very active and the other not. I had met a few guys on the active one but none of them turned out to be who they said they were. I was getting more active in my church and felt he was leading me elsewhere so I deleted that account and went to delete the other. When you log on to the slow one, it shows who is online. Maybe 4 people were on and Mick was one of them. I thought he was cute and though I would just read his bio, didn't even look to see where he lived. I read it and loved it, he showed his faith and humility and he said he loved Harley's. I knew nothing of Harleys except I had just read an article about the V-Rod the week before in my mechanics office. So I just wrote 2 sentences and then looked at his location...Nottingham, England!!! I figured it wouldn't go anywhere so just kept it at the 2 sentences. He replied right away and the rest was history.
We got engaged of Messenger and then a month later, I flew over to meet him and his family. I actually bought my wedding gown before meeting him. Mom wasn't happy and my aunt said what if he's an axe murderer? I knew in my heart. 2 months later, he moved to the states and we got married. So from the time we "met" online to wedding day was just under 5 months.
As I mentioned above, we'll be celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary in March.
