Hi, I am in the process of miscarrying...we weren't far along but I had a few questions from someone who has had this before...
How long did you bleed?
Did you have a d & c? Do you think they help you get pregnant faster by having a d &c which could help strengthen the uterus?
How do you know when your bleeding too much to call dr?
Thanks! This is rough but I need some answers.

I've had both natural and D&C's...I think that a natural miscarriage would be better to TTC right away, but I also got pregnant right after a D&C, so I guess it depends on the person...I can't answer on the bleeding because I had complications after both my miscarriages and I bled for a long time...I think if you bleed more than 2 weeks your supposed to call your doctor...Also, if you fill a pad front to back in an hour your bleeding too much...I hemorrhaged, and it was a lot of blood...A lot heavier than a period, so it's pretty easy to tell if your bleeding too much...Good luck and I hope you don't need a D&C and the bleeding stops soon! I'm sorry for your loss

I am so sorry for your loss My miscarriage was a missed one, I was 14 weeks when they could no longer find the heartbeat and the baby measured at 7wk 5days. So I didn't want to wait for my body to miscarry since it had been holding on so long already so I opted to try the medicine to jumpstart things. I don't know how that will make my experience differ from a natural one. I bled and had labor pains horribly at two separate times, for about 1.5 hours each time where I just sat on the toilet because there was a lot of blood. After that happened I was continuing to have a regular flow and it wasn't tapering off so we did another dose of the medicine and same thing happened so I had to have a d&C. After the D&C I was pleased to find that there was no pain and I was able to resume normal activities the next day although my uterus was sore for a day or two sometime after that.
How long did you bleed? I started the medicine on 12/7 and was still bleeding (although it had trickled down a little) by the time I had the D&C on 12/17
Did you have a d & c? Do you think they help you get pregnant faster by having a d &c which could help strengthen the uterus? I did have a D&C, if faced with another MISSED miscarriage Iwould likely opt for a D&C as opposed to the medicine just because it didn't work for me and I'd like to just get it over with. While I can't say for sure what I'd choose with a natural spontaneous miscarriage I might opt for a D&C just to be done with it. I haven't read anything about it helping you get pregnant faster though.
How do you know when your bleeding too much to call dr? When you soak (like SOAK, and you'll know!) more then 2 pads in 2 hours you have to call the dr or go to the ER. At least this is what my Dr told me. This happened to me after my D&C (there was a tiny tissue piece left and my body was trying to get it out) and I started GUSHING blood, it looked like straight out of a sci fi movie. So if you are bleeding enough, you'll know when to call the dr. And you can always call if you are worried anyways, they are there to ease your fears and help you through this!

Well...I have had four miscarriage so far and the natural ones for me were the worst. I bled a lot longer and the miscarriage took longer and I had to watch all the products of conception come out. I have to say that going in for a d&c was much better because for me it did what it was supposed to. I bled only lightly and got pregnant faster. I think the decision to have a d&c is a personal one and for each woman is a different decision for different reasons.
I am sorry about your loss...this board has the best women on JM....just saying!

Same for me. Except for my chemicals, I totally opted in for a D&C. ((Hugs)) I am sorry you are going through this, it hurts so much and we understand. We are here to hold your hand and cry with you.

I had bleeding/spotting from one week before MC to two weeks after. I had heavy bleeding for only a few hours in one day. The rest was spotting. I do not believe that a D&C helps you get better faster. I also am a "less procedures is better" type of person, so weigh that in too.
AZSnowflake story is pretty much the textbook of "too much bleeding". I had crazy heavy bleeding like that intermittently (every 15-20 mins) for about 2 hours. I went through almost half of a pack of "overnight" pads in that time. When you stop for a few days and start up again like crazy, that's a problem.
But really, this kind of advice should come from a doctor because this is just my experience and all women are different as is evident if you hang out here and read the posts. haha
Anyway, I hope your stay here is brief but as enjoyable as it can be. There's a lot of fun to counteract the serious.

With my chemicals I just got a very heavy period with some painful cramping. With my D&C I had very little bleeding and I was only sore for a few days but nothing unbearable. My natural m/c were pretty intense pain wise and also with bleeding. HUGS! I am sorry for your loss and welcome to the board.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just joined the Sept DDC, then saw you had to go
When I had my m/c in april the baby had stopped growing at 7.5 weeks. I opted for the medicine (cytotec) because it was less invasive. It might work for you if you are already experiencing bleeding. I prefer that over the d&c bc I have had a c-section before.
This is a great website for other peoples experiences with the cytotec. It helped me a lot:

This loss I've just gone thru a little over a week ago was the fastest bleeding period that I've had with a loss... the heaviest bleeding was the first day and I had passed 2 very very large pieces of the sac as well as allot of huge clots. Then it stopped that night like somethign was blocking my cervix and the next day I bled more by the 3rd day it had lightened up significantly like all the tissue was already expelled except for some smallish clots with then turned into spotting then nothing.
My loss July 30th'09 was very heavy and longer then my loss I just went thru... as well as our 2nd loss Aug 21'09 which was heavier than this loss. Our 3rd loss which was ectopic I bled for 60 days and the perinatologist didn't think it was abnormal! what the?? anyways that was a very rough loss for me (lost my tube)

i bled for 7 weeks before getting a DnC done. they said i was progressing and eliminating on my own but after 7 weeks i still had tissue remaining so they gave me DnC
i dont kno if u have higher chance of getting pregnant from it. i was told bleeding too much is soaking 2 pads in 2 hours. at that point go to ER. I was also told it can be normal to bleed up to 6 weeks naturally after miscarriage. but i would say go to ER if ur in pain or you feel you are bleeding too heavy for too long. caz i really didnt have 'complications' until it was too long but at the same time i went in after 4 weeks of bleeding and was REAL close to needing a blood transfusion and didnt realize i had lost that much blood.

With my first loss my body didn't know something was wrong with the baby. I had to have a d&c. I ended up having a lot of problems from the d&c and ended up in the hospital with infection. After the infection cleared up my numbers went down 0 in about 3 weeks. This last lost in December I wasn't that far along. I just had heavy bleeding and cramping for about 4 days. My numbers didn't take that long to go back down to 0.
I am sorry for you loss. All of us are here for you if you need to talk or just someone to hold your hand.

I have had both. The D&C was alot easier but if given the choice I would choose natural again only for the $$$. If I had known how much the hospital would charge for 20 minute in the OR I would have never done it. $14,000 was the total cost my insurance is not that great so I had to pay $3100.00 out of pocket. But to compaire my daughter only cost me $2,800 and we stayed 2 nights in the hospital.

Wow. Whenever I see the numbers that the doctors charge for these procedures, it's frightening. I have good insurance, so I don't often get to see the numbers behind the visits. My son went in because of a cut on his head and we didn't know if he needed stitches. They billed it as a surgery and charge $700 to put a dab of glue on his head. I could have done that. It's so annoying.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I started with a light pink bleeding then hemorrhaged November 9...when the initial hemorrhaged slowed (overnight in ER), I bled heavyish for about 9 days and then 2 days of spotting.
I didn't have to have a D&C and I was happy with this as any kind of "surgery" scares me.
I've been told it's easier to get pregnant after a natural because your lining is still intact, hasn't been scaped too thin, but I'm not entirely sure. My OB told us in December we could try as soon as we wanted, and well, here I am.
