My dd has always had a problem going to the bathroom (#2) it got bad enough that she is on miralax daily for over the last year and we've had to see a specialist about her...they all chalked it up to be her holding it. It has been 6 days since last bm she is in dire pain i refuse to let her off the toilet i think she is almost there (i have given a suppository today and miralax) normally i would sit with her but she is in so much pain that she refuses to go i can't force her i know that, and i keep crying cause i hate seeing her like this, i really don't think she is holding it what else could it be though? i am a mess

Little Tummies, makes some medicine that works better then miralax. My dd, had some similar problems. And while miralax didn't help all that much, the Little Tummies medicine did help.

That would be my suggestion is little tummies, and maybe some pedialyte.

My son has chronic constipation since birth, so bad hes on a stool softner twice a day. I would go with an enima because it will help loosten the stool so it watery and will come out easier since she is probably constipated and its hard

DS #2 had a terrible time. They had us use enulose syrup (4TBS a DAY!!!) It's very similar to using corn syrup. I know that sounds crazy, but it helped what they called "mega colon". He held it (as a toddler) to the point that the colon could hold more than he could get out. (I hope that makes sense) We had to make the stool loose enough to pass easily. Corn syrup works.(Do NOT start with 4TBS....Ask your ped how much to try) It is natural so it doesn't create a chemical need to use medication to go. It's frustrating. I hope things get better. Just know that many of us have gone through this...You'll find your solution. Good luck. KUP

My cousin's son has the same problem and when he gets bad she uses the little tummys and has his sit in a warm bath until he can let it go... for some reason the warm water with a back rub seems to help her little guy... GL figuring out what will work for your DD

Good luck finding the doc. It's always so hard. I hope you find a good one. And ask them how much corn syrup you can try? It won't hurt her, but it may make the stool loose enough to pass. (Seriously, why do they call it stool?!??! Ugh. Sorry, had to throw that in ) Anyway, if you increase fluids and add the sugar, it does wonders. Yes, it took a while. But NO problems since he was two. He'll be 13 (years old) soon. Hope things get better. Oh, and a random medical "thing" that I learned with my niece that also had this problem... If a child is "holding" it, they will typically release their bowels when they sleep. sorry. The body WILL take over. Hope all goes well.

this was my daughter. odds are she IS holding it. too many experiences like this teach them that going to the potty hurts and they just wont do it. did you quit doing the miralax? i did this with my daughter as well for a LONG time. i also had a friend who's little boy wouldnt go for days on end and she used it for YEARS as well.

the issue now is getting her to get that HARD piece out - and that piece is why she is scared to go. she can feel it, it is hard and big and she is afraid it will hurt. chances are she is RIGHT - but once she gets rid of the "plug" she will be good to go. it sounds like you have done the right thing - she needs a laxative of some sort to overcome her ability to hold it.... i am SO sorry. my dd did the same thing.... day six came and we were both desperate. her crying me crying - me yelling push honey push. it was horrible. i have totally been there

are you potty training by any chance? i would put that on hold for awhile til you can get this resolved.

imo - best thing you can do is make every poop from here after super soft for her so she gets some "good"experiences under her belt . soon she will be old enough to talk to about the dangers of holding it, and that will help, but for now she will need help going.

bless her heart. i feel for both of you

You got some great advice here, It has been a long time for me since my guys are so much older. But I wanted to give you a hug and let you know you are an awesome mommy. Ya know that feeling of hurting when they hurt? It never goes away... My oldest is turning 20 in a few weeks and I still feel sad when he struggles, I just try not to show it.
