Had this week long transient migraine this week and finally went in to the hosp yesterday after getting let out of work a little early. Finally got a break from it, as well as a script for fiorcet to help until I can get into the GP's office. Whatever they gave me which was a mix of benedryl, ativan, fenobarbitol (?) not sure if that is exactly it, but it all helped as well as make me sleep for 12 hours.
Anyone have good results from fiorcet for migraines?
Imetrex doesn't help and I've tried others as well, not this one tho... also is it ok to take while ttc? They were aware of that when I went in because they asked my lmp and I explained to the 2 nurses the whole window of what's happened. The 2nd nurse I couldn't tell if she was really concerned or not, but kept saying how hard it must be to lose 4 babies in such a short amount of time and kept repeating it. I sorta got the vibe like "why do you keep trying" and I then explained to her the testing I've had done shows nothing, no reason. She was sweet enough tho and perhaps that's just my part of me not healed from my most recent loss... that I have some guilt.
I'm rambling I know... Anywho... I feel tons better and even tho I have a headache brewing now I'm not incapacitated.

I'm sorry you're having migraines. I've had them since I was 16, and they are miserable. I went a few years where I did really well and didn't have as many, but in the last few months they've hit with a vengeance. I'm deathly allergic to Imitrex. I took it once when it first came out, and within 10 minutes I couldn't move, talk, or breathe. I had to be rushed to the ER. It was really scary! I can attest to the fact that it has the ability to work fast, just not in a good way for me. Anyway, after I came up allergic to the Imitrex they switched me to Fioricet and Skelaxin. Neither one for me is 100%. They help to take the edge off the pain, but I haven't been able to find anything that gets rid of the pain completely. I'm not sure if it's safe while ttc. From what I could fine it's a class C drug for use in pregnancy

I would imagine that anything that is going to help a migraine would fall into this category, since they usually require a more powerful medicine to help with the pain. Definitely see what your GP has to say. I hope these migraines leave you alone! You've been through enough and certainly don't need this adding to it!

I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm not 100% sure but I believe Fiorcet is is actually a pain medicine not a specific migraine medicine. Narcotic maybe? It's been so long since I've taken it that I can't be sure.

Hey Celena,
I've had migranes since I was 17.. Imatrex and the others in it's family of migrane meds don't work for me, neither does midrin .. Fiorecet works great for me.. the trick with it is to take it as soon as you think you are gettign one .. I find if I wait to long to take it, it does nto work as well . it is a class C drug but when I was pregnant with dd2 they told me it was fine to take it because it is taken as needed .. Also when I was pregnant with the twins I lost last year the OB said it is safe for pregnancy .. They tried me on Topamax which you take everyday, it has shown birth defects when taken at high doses but only in women who take it with other anti seizure meds and then rarely .. the does I was on was considered safe, as safe as something like that can be .. Topamax was magic and I had no migranes while on it but I guess I just did not want to take the risk, although it is also, like Fiorecet a class C drug ... I guess Fiorcet is safer because it is not taken everyday . I take it now.. they know I am on it and are fine with it.. of course I would rather have no migranes and stay on topamax.. I will gladly suffer many a migrane to have a baby...:-) oddly enough I only get like 1-2 migranes the entire pregnancy normally so I don't really need it when pregnant... They do say pregnancy is often a buffer for many women and lots of us who get migranes when not pregnant , do not get them or at least not as often when we are :-) I go tomorrow for a follie check, so I'll ask me RE again justo check for ya .. Sorry this was so long

I get 3-4 migraines a week and take Fioricet. Ironically enough when I am pregnant I hardly get any migraines at all. My poor son Dylan gets migraines as well. ((Hugs)) Love you!

Awe thanks for your help ladies!
I've been getting them since 6th grade which is what 12? My mom took me in to the pediatrician the beginning of 7th grade, I got glasses with no help from the headaches and then the dr did a bunch of stuff (which I cannot remember now) but came down to the dx of migraines. Was put on midrin back then, but school only let me have tylenol while in school blech!
Had a good period of time without major ones, but as much as I don't want to admit it the last year or so have been brutal especially the last month or few. This week has been non-stop! So I caved and went in. I already take pain meds for my fibro so I "thought" hey I'll take one of those and a decongestant/antihistamine combo, nada. I told them that, but whatever they did helped and so far this fiorecet (sp?) seems to be ok. Still have a bit of a headache in the back of my skull just not behind my eyes as bad

Migraines are the worst! I get them as well. I was on Topamax when I was in high school but I went off of it when DH and I got married. I have never heard of what you take. Luckily I get them less and less now. I hope the meds work for you!

I also get migraines and nothing seems to give me any relief except sleep. I have had several times I have had to go into the ER and they give me morphine so I can get some relief/rest. I hope the meds work for you hun. I wouldn't wish a migraine on my worst enemy.

I'm glad that you're feeling better now.
I've had migraines since puberty. I never really found any meds that helped me. What I have found that's worked is regular chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture. Now I only get 1 or 2 a year (if that).
