Is it safe to have a few drinks at 5dpo? All our of social events seem to take place during the TTW. I'm getting tired of not being able to have a drink!

I'm not going to really answer this, because I really don't know.

BUT:

I totally agree with you! I've actually switched the calendar around this month, so that all of the events fell during the 2ww to O.

I think it would be fine to drink at 5dpo...I don't think i'd get fall on your face kind of drunk, but I think a drink or two wouldn't hurt....I don't think anything affects pregnancy till the egg has implanted...I myself wont drink in the 2ww, but I don't drink any way lol...I'm sure it wont hurt if you want a drink or two

Go for it Karen! First of all, you do not know if you are pregnant or not so you are ok.

If you are not pregnant you will say, dang why did I deny myself a little fun? (At least that is what I did to myself for over a year).

If you are pregnant, the placenta does not take over until 4+ weeks (I need to go look up the exact time frame) so it would not hurt the baby anyway.

Go have some fun...

Studies show that window of alcohol having an affect on the fetus does not begin until the 6th week pregnancy. It is thought that the developing baby has some defenses against whatever might cross the placenta before the mother knows he/she is pregnant. Therefore, one drink BEFORE you even are technically pregnant (since no implantation occurs, there is absolutely no way this could affect anything), would do absolutely nothing to hinder your chances of having a healthy little baby (or preventing implantation).

I am a Chemical Dependency Counselor by trade You would not believe what we saw at our rehab (all for pregnant addicted women) and the amount of women we had drinking their brains out and having healthy babies. It was infuriating (and even more now that I am part of this board). We had a lot of info there and I liked looking through all the text when I was between clients/sessions/groups.

This is what I've read and heard too, I think you are perfectly fine. Don't get drunk by any means but they say that having a glass of wine every now and then during pregnancy is fine and there's been studies done that show a glass of red wine during pregnancy is actually beneficial. I know it is hard information for some people to believe (I have a hard time myself sometimes). I abstain after finding out pregnancy but while TTC, one drink doesn't hurt IMO.

I also wanted to add - the average DPO for implantation is something like 8-9 DPO (or so I've read).

I'll also say that with DD, I drank one night because I had thought that that cycle was a bust. It was after AF was due, but since I have irregular cycles I had no idea. She is a perfectly healthy wonderful little girl now, thank goodness!
