My primary care doctor has referred me to an RE due to my elevated prolactin level and the fact thats I seem to be o'ing late, my cycles are out of whack.

So I go next Wednesday. What should I expect? I'm waiting to get my packet of paperwork in the mail to fill out. What can they do for my cycle if I have a 28/29 day cycle but got + OPKs at day 20 the last 2 months. Is there something that can help me O earlier? I will ask all these questions next week, but in the meantime I literally have been making myself sick over this.

I was up ALL night last night(no lie), with racing thoughts through my head that I will never have another baby. Is this true??

Edited to add: In July we got pregnant right away with baby #2 (the loss) and I always assumed I o'd around day 14. We had sex a few times all around day 14 and it worked. What is up with my body now??

I don't have any answers because I don't really know much about all the physiology involved. I hope everything turns out well. I'm sure there is an answer and the doctors have probably seen this before.

I know it's hard to stay calm about this stuff, but it's great that you're going to see a RE. I'm sure they'll get it straightened out and you'll get a sticky BFP. Your cycle issues might be fixed by simply treating the prolactin (since it can delay O), and if not, you can ask to try Clomid or Femara to move your O date up and lengthen your LP. It's frustrating as ****, but there is no reason to doubt that you will not have a baby in your arms soon.

If your cycle is only 28 days long but you aren't Oing until day 20 (which is just a little late), your biggest problem is not Oing late but your short luteal phase. They'll probably examine that first. Good luck!

I have never been to an RE but I'm assuming the will probably go over your history and then decide on a plan of action. Maybe blood work/meds/Ultrasound. I hope your appointment goes well and please keep us updated. I also wanted to add not to be worried. They are there to help you get your rainbow baby

I haven't been to a RE so I can't answer your questions. I just wanted to wish you luck and I hope you get your sticky BFP soon.

When I went to my first RE visit, it was a consult, he took down a history , answered my questions and gave me provera script . I had to go back on CD 3 and they did all of the blood work and we went from there.. you might not get any concrete answers that first visit but you will get some hope and a sense that something is finally going to happen !! Good luck !!

My first visit with the RE was actually pretty long. First he sat and discussed things with DH and me. Went over all our family history, and or losses. Then he basically looked at pretty much every inch of my body. They did a trans-vaginal u/s. (where he discovered the cyst) and then took a ton of blood for tests. He pretty much immediately diagnosed the cyst and recommend removing it. Then a couple days later called and diagnosed me with Hashimotos (hypothyroid).
Basically the first visit was probably one of the most thorough physicals I ever had- probably why I remember it so well considering it was in December of 2008.

Good luck!!!!

I don't know about Oing earlier (maybe clomid? not sure) but they can address the short luteal phase (time between Oing and AF) with progesterone. For the prolactin issue they can prescribe a medication. I forget what it's called but starts with a B. Good luck
