It went okay. We only ended up with 5 million swimmers after the wash, and that isn't really a good number. My RE said it was fine, but that doesn't really agree with anything I've read. So that's kind of crappy.
The IUI itself was more painful than I expected, and I had some cramping afterward, so that didn't help my mood I just hope this cycle works so I don't have to decide whether it's worth it to do more IUIs with those numbers.
Hopefully I have a happier outlook in the morning

Im sorry you are a bit disappointed with the numbers. What would be a good number to have after a wash? The wash makes it 5 mil fantastic swimmers right?

Thanks everyone
This is the gist of what I've read:
The more sperm we have after washing, the higher the pregnancy rates.
We like to get more than 10 million total motile sperm. This is a good number. Between 5 and 10, the pregnancy rates are lower, and the rates are much lower with less than 5.
So 5 million isn't like impossible, but it seems to be the lower limit for having a reasonable chance. Blah.

Has there been concern about dh's counts before? Not really concern, but the low end of average? Does that change at all?
And aside from the education you arew giving me, lol, I want you to know, I hope so much for this to be your month!

My DH had a semen analysis in September that came back on the low edge of normal. Like normal is >40 million, and his count was 40 million, lol. I was kind of concerned, but the RE wasn't, so I squashed my worries (I know, you didn't know I could do that! hahahha)
But his prewash stats today were below normal on volume, total count, % motile, and total motile count. They can change month to month, so we would definitely do another Femara IUI cycle if this cycle doesn't work. But if the counts stay this low, I'm not sure it's worth expensive injectable IUI cycles (they would eat up at least $2000 of our fertility benefit for each cycle) for like a 3% chance vs IVF cycles for a 40-50% chance. I hope we don't have to make that decision.

What about Femara, iui, without injectables? Thats what we were about to do... is there a reason for the injectables? You had a lovely follie last cycle, right? Without inj? or with?

This cycle is Femara/IUI, and we are going to do 1 or 2 more Femara/IUI cycles... but my RE usually doesn't use one med for more than 4 cycles, and my DH is getting antsy to get more aggressive. So the plan was always 1 or 2 more Femara/IUI cycles, then 3-4 injectables/IUI cycles, then IVF.
Also, the success rate of IUI is 5-20% per cycle... the high end of the range is for cycles with multiple follies, the low end is for cycles with 1 follie.

Hey Nicole - TTCWMA is so stressful, huh?! I am sorry his counts were on the low end but it still does not mean you are out this cycle! ((Hugs)) From the outside looking in I would say if you have insurance benefits that will pay for part of this go straight to IVF. But then again, Kary's hubby was on the low end of normal as well and she has twins so who knows. Said a prayer for a bfp for you honey. xoxoxoxo

Thanks, girls
Missy, you're not kidding about the stress Since we wouldl go ahead with another Femara IUI cycle anyway to see if the counts are consistently low, I guess I've got a couple months to think about this. Hopefully I'll just get a BFP and be done with all of this
