Hi ladies,

So I recently started going to an acupuncturist for some other issues not necessarily related to TTC, but would certainly be an issue when I get pregnant - crushing fatigue, constant cold, body aches, etc (sounds like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, but its really not) - and apparently my most recent m/c seem to also be mixed in with whatever is going on in my body, according to traditional chinese medicine.

So after two sessions with my acupuncturist, I must say, I feel REALLY good and she said that once we get my body in balance, the only thing that I should have challenges with is actually conceiving due to my age, which is normal at age 37 (as in, more challenging than if I were 22 being that its just an issue with biololgical aging). Its given me a TON of hope and wanted to see if any of you have tried out acupuncture, acupressure or any form of chinese medicine for your fertility.

Just what I've learned so far is almost about to make me change my career path

The best part is that I'm going to our local School of Chinese Medicine - where they have student and graduate clinics where the cost for a treatment is 1/4 to 1/3 what it costs to go to a regular clinic, and the care is just as good, and quite possibly, superior, as you have the instructors there constantly. Which is awesome since neither DH or I are working full time right now...

Just wanted to throw it out there...and wondered if anyone else has tried it!! I'm super happy with the results so far.

I was thinking of trying acupuncture this spring if I wasn't pregnant by then. There are a couple of practitioners here that specialize in fertility acupuncture.

So far I'm really hopeful - when I went in on Monday, she treated me for the hormonal imbalance I"ve been dealing with since my loss - I had unusually bad acne (usually my skin is super clear) on my face and chest, oily skin, super dry hair, stomach blaoating and over the top carb and sugar cravings - things I'm used to for a day or two every few months but six weeks was getting really annoying. So she treated me on Monday and today, my skin is cleared up, the bloat is gone and the cravings were gone almost immediately.

So I am a believer! :-)

Wow, that is a pretty amazing testimony. Does it hurt? and what is the cost? Are you required to buy herbs or take them as a part of the treatment?

Its just a really quick sharp (literally) pinprick - and it really depends on the spot. There are some that I can barely feel and one or two that I notice a bit more. And any discomfort is right when the pin goes in, there is no lingering discomfort at all.

The part I like the best is that she leaves the needles in for about 30-40 minutes...and it is the most blissful relaxation I've ever felt. When I went in on Monday, I fell into the best deep REM sleep I've had in a long time. And you feel really relaxed and jello-y the rest of the day. I LOVE IT.

I went ahead and bought some herbs - they're very different from the stuff you can buy at your normal health food stores since they're traditional chinese medicine formulas - but they're not required at all.

She's treating me for a bunch of "yang deficiencies" - which basically means that the hot/cold balance in the body's meridians is really off - and I"ve depleted the "warmth" in my system. Sort of wierd, but it makes sense the more I read about it. The acupuncture helps unblock my system and the herbs help warm it up...and I've gone from being super cold all the time to being very comfortable in the 2 weeks since I've been on the herbs.

I'm paying $35 for an hour long treatment - its the "grad clinic" - bascially grads from the school come back and do essentially pro-bono work, which is really awesome. If I were to go to the student clinic, where the students of the program do the treatments (while monitored by instructors) its $25 for an hour and a half treatment.
