I just got off the phone with one of my very best girlfriends, who's 21 weeks pregnant with her second little boy, and I love talking to her about it. She's having a midwife-assisted VBAC, and other than her midwives, I'm literally the only person who she's told that she's planning on trying to have a fully natural childbirth with no meds. Like, she hasn't even told her husband. She doesn't want to hear people say she can't do it (because that's what people ALWAYS say when you say you're going without meds, I heard it every day and I did it!), she doesn't want to hear people say "That's really a great goal, but you know it's okay if you don't, right?" She just wants to try and to have the freedom to make decisions along the way. She doesn't want any cheerleaders there who will be like, "Come on sweetie, you're almost there, just a little longer without the meds." And other than her husband, I'm the only person she'll talk to about names. It's just really special to me that we're so close that she tells me things she won't tell other people, and I'm so thrilled for them. They're amazing people, terrific parents, and I know this little boy is going to be born into a home full of love. I'm always so happy to talk to her about her pregnancy, it makes me look forward to being pregnant again even more. Please happen soon!

I was watching a TV show last night and they said that 90% of all births are with Epidurals. I was floored. I had my older 2 with demoral (which did nothing but make me sick) and my youngest with no pain meds, not even an IV. I am no hero and really think a pain free birth would be so cool but don't understand why so many are choosing this option now a days. One woman said you wouldn't get a tooth pulled without being numb so why give birth with pain (or something like that).
I think it is great that you are able to talk to her about everything like that.

The back labor was worse than any of the pushing. By the time I endured 15 hours of labor (11 of which were back labor), I was READY to push!!

I hope for you to get pregnant quick too.
I am gunning for a natural child birth this time. I had pit/epi with my daughter and it was the most tramatic experiance I have ever had... almost did not have anymore kids because it was just that bad.

I hope you get that BFP very, very soon. You are an amazing friend. Much stronger than I am. I still have a hard time with very pregnant women
I find the comments about natural childbirth don't end after you actually do it. I still get people say I am "nuts" or "an earth mama" because I chose natural with Liam (and will hopefully have another). I know the rates for epis are through the roof right now. People say all the time "why feel pain when you don't have to." I never bother to explain. Good for her for having someone to talk to about it and not having to deal with the ill-advised comments. To each their own!
