So as some of you know, my levels were 8.9 when tested at like 3ish weeks. Then they prescribed me 100 mg prometrium once daily. I took them vaginally, without the consent of my doctor, because I didn't think it would be a big deal (since the pills are more effective taken that way). They tested me again at 6 weeks 1 day and they went to 7.2. I know when taken vaginally your blood work won't come back showing the increase in levels. But it seems like they would have risen somewhat you know?
So they then prescribed me 200 mg once a day and since they did that I have been taking them orally. However, they make me SO TIRED this way which is another reason I wanted to take them vaginally because the side effects of the pills are reduced.
I called my doctor Fri and asked about taking them vaginally (due to the effectiveness/side effects). Well the nurse just called me back, and sounded a little rude with me, because I asked about taking them vaginally. She was all "Yes the Dr. knows about taking them vaginally but that is not how they were prescribed to you". Ok...I understand that but they didn't really comment on the effectiveness thing. Just kinda left it at that.
Does anyone know WHY a doctor might NOT prescribe them vaginally? I am ok with not taking them vaginally, I just wish they would explain to me why. I guess I just feel like they are wanting to do the least amount they can for me...or that I am just annoying them with questions.
Then I asked if they are going to retest my progesterone levels and she said "No".
I am already a little irritated because my doctor pretty much told me that she isn't going to allow me to VBAC unless I lose weight (the ol' "too fat to VBAC" line I guess).
It just makes me want to start looking for another provider. It is so hard to want to do everything in your power to keep yourself from losing another baby while feeling like no one else really gives a ****.
Do I just need to chill out?

Can you ask for suppositories instead of pills?
About the vbac, because you aren't thin enough they wont let you try it? that's really stupid IMO...How can you lose weight while your pregnant? Honestly, if I were you i'd look into finding a new doctor...Your early enough along where it would probably be easy, but the longer you wait the harder it will be to find a new doctor...It doesn't sound like your going to be happy with them...Good luck!!

I agree with Megan! And I have the pills as well. They wanted me to take them vaginally but said if my levels weren't increasing how they were supposed to I would switch to take them by mouth. So woman's bodies don't dissolve the pill vaginally as well as orally. HTH. And I really, really hope you find another doctor soon.

I would look for another doctor. Doctors are like spouses, it's not going to work out if you're not on the same page. Too much stress and anger. I had a terrible time with my one doctor and that doctor's office made me so mad that it elevated my blood pressure from 112/xx to 140/xx (it was back to normal the next morning) and I switched doctors the next day. My new doctor is great. He has the same philosophies as me when it comes to medicine.

I agree with the ladies, I would look for a different Ob. I understand your issues with Vbac stuff too. I wanted to have a VBAC with my daughter. In my state its almost impossible to do that though. I don't know what state your in but keep asking around and trying to find a OB that is open to a VBAC you should at least be able to try.

When your levels are really low, they usually want them orally due to being absorbed by your body the best way. If they were borderline, then the vaginal thing would be ok. This is what my dr. told me. I have always taken them orally, and with my last pg, they were 40+ at 4wks, 70+ at 6wks, and over 100 at 8wks. This was taking a 200mg per day (2 pills, 100mg each.) When my progesterone was tested non-pregnant at 7dpo they were at 15. Usually the dr. wants to see a blood level of at least 20 when pg.
I hope you find someone else too, your questions should not go un-answered.

I agree about finding a new doctor. It's just stress upon stress when you don't get along with your doctor.

I think you need to call around and ask some questions of local providers. This one sounds not only rude, but dismissive and unsupportive. That is not what you want for the rest of your pregnancy. And it is even worse that they are NOT listening to you. This is your body and your baby. They at least need to listen to your intuition and "deal" with your questions. I would have been cursing them out on the phone if they coped that attitude with me (yea, I get mean when I am pregnant). YOU are hiring THEM. Not the other way around. They work for YOU. If this was an employee of yours, I am sure they would have had thier pink slip a long, long time ago. I would switch, after explaining what you need to the new provider and then file a formal complaint (I forget who you file this through). There is NO reason for them to be treating you this way. You are scared, helpless, and asking for explanations. It is not as though you are asking for a million dollars. You are NOT overreacting...you are being treated horribly.

My doctor likes to see a minimum of 15 on a non medicated cycle. The progesterone makes me realllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy sleepy as well so I try to take it as close to bed time as possible.
Try to find a doctor that is on the same page as you.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I really appreciate all your help and advice.
I found a VBAC friendly provider in Knoxville which is over an hour away. I need to find out if they accept my insurance though. We shall see!
