Tomorrow I have my first offical prenatal check up. Acourding to the receptionist it is only a paper work and history appointment and they will do a pap (I am refusing the pap because I have had 2 since last March already and last one was just October.
I asked if there is a ultrasound and she said no.
So with my last loss being a missed miscarriage I am so freaked out that this baby has passed and I wont know unless they do an ultrasound. If next appt wont be for another month I can not keep freaking out about it for 4 more weeks.

So I am trying to find reasons why they should do a ultrasound tomorrow...
I have been a tiny bit crampy so I was thinking of playing that up a bit.
My back started hurting last night (it was hurting really bad when I lost the baby last fall and I just thought I was having problems with my back).
Just general freaking out about it can not be good.
So I am going to plead my case and hope they will do a quick peace of mind scan for me.

I hope your appointment goes well! I would also do what I had to and get an ultrasound. I wouldn't want to wait another month. I hope they let you have one! KUP!

Well, I think playing up a negative invites bad karma (I know karma is not the right word, but it's the best one I could think of). I would never exaggerate bad symptoms for fear of creating them.

I would tell them that you're stressed due to previous loss and that you would like to have one. If they refuse, find a different doctor.

I totally understand the fear you have. I had a missed miscarriage also, and I showed NO signs at all of losing the baby. In fact, I still had all my pregnancy signs and symptoms including the day of my D&C @ almost 10 weeks. If it were me, I would just tell them why I needed the u/s. I'm not so sure that I would be able to hold back the waterworks either But that is just me. I have a hard time keeping my emotions bottled up. Good luck and I hope you get the u/s.

Ditto. Personally it would make me nervous to tell them something like that for the reason above.

Honestly, I think you need to tell them that you are stressed as well and that since you have had a previous loss at X amount of weeks that you want to have a scan to make sure the baby has not passed.

It seems like this would be something they would want to do anyway, given the fact that you have had a m/c before. I would want to find a different doctor too if they were not being accomodating to you. You have every right to be scared/worried and ask for an early u/s to ease your mind.

*hugs*

I agree with the ladies I would tell them the truth and find a new OB that will do an u/s if they won't. My Ob does an u/s every time you go in that is why I picked her!!

Well I have found you have to pick if you want a good birth or good prenatal care (not saying they will give me bad care because I am new to this office).
My old OB would do it if I asked.... but I had the most tramitic birth with my daughter and the hospital he works at and his bed side manners during birth were horrible, and having a better birth experiance out weights a couple extra ultrasounds.
This office of miswives has one of the best reputations for following birth plans to the T. And I will be able to have the drug free water birth I am trying for (given no complications).

I could just be freaking out over nothing and they might already be planning to do one and the receptionsit is just pushing me to the side. I used this office when with my last pregnancy and my first appt with them was at 9 weeks and I asked the receptionist what this appt will consit of and if there are any ultrasounds so I knew how long to get a sitter for. She said they do not do ultrasound unless a problem is detected. I get to my appt the nurse walks me back to the room and there sits a machine. I was given a ultrasound and the receptionist told me wrong....given there was a problem but they did not know that until they did the ultrasound.

Once I get passed this appt and if everything is ok I will start to calm down a little.

I bet once you get in there and they understand your history they will do one. It's warranted to relieve your stress, which isn't good for you or the baby!

My plan for once I am pregnant and have an appt around 10 weeks is to ask them to check the heartbeat with the doppler, and then if they can't find it, freak out until they give me a u/s. Hopefully they won't give you a problem and everything will be fine.
