I have to get out of my job and I've done this once before, so, I'm going to do it again... as well as apprenticing as a tattoo artist. I can do both simultaneously... it's something I've had a strong passion for and at one time was heading to school to get my RN then go to Seattle Midwifery School when I lived in WA.
Things changed... here I am in VA
So being that I'm unhappy at my job, I might go back into being a birth doula Going to pull out all my books, order my certification packet and then find a few people who need a doula to attend their births for the certficication.
We shall see how this all pans out

Good luck!!! I know at least one of our local hospitals offers free doula services to their birthing moms, because they contract out doulas and pay them. There are also doula agencies, but that would take away from your profits if you had to pay for an agency, although it would get you some notoriety. Are you planning to visit baby stores and put up cards, or what?

Erin, I know a childbirth educator who would be more than willing to pass along my cards and brochures to her classes. She teaches natural childbirth As well as I have allot of friends who would help pass along my cards, put them in dr's offices, WIC offices etc. That's my plan anyways However, I do need to find some other sort of work for now.
It's something I LOVED doing and I'll get to help women, husbands bring their babies into the world thru childbirth support. I still have tons of books, birth ball, laminated labor support chart, etc. Just need to dig it all up and start a new expandable file folder.
I met Penny Simkin at the DONA Doula Workshop that I recieved a certificate for... it was really neat! She signed my book and took pictures with me.
Thank you for all of your support ladies, I'm just really at my wits end with my job and almost told the boss today to take me off the schedule indefinitely. It's kicking my butt, I'm still recovering from working saturday night and it wasn't that busy. This fibro kicks my arse!

Celena, this is absolutely the cooolest thing Ive heard of in a long time. I too wanted to be a MW, but my mortgage company never got the point of paying for my school.........I bought all my books, read most of them in my 20's......and really wanted to go back to school once my company became a Bank and not just a brokerage. But here Iam at the age of 40, and I finally let me dream go. I pray one of my kids wants to pursue this.........doubt it, but a girl can hope right?
This is the next best thing to one of my kids doing it, YOU! Congrats on an awsome adventure!! I cant wait to see your dreams unravel and everything become a reality! Including giving your husband a lo of your very own........I will be here waiting, patiently, no hurry!
