I just received my results from my D&C (Jan 27) and the doctor has diagnosed my loss as a molar pregnancy. He now wants me to go on BCP for 6 months. I am totally against this. He said that it is very important not to get pg right away. It took us over 4 years to get our BFP. I don't want to wait another 4 years.
Anyone else have experience with this? Just wondering if anyone had successful pregnancies without waiting the 6 months or more.

Theres a mommy here that finally after about a year after her diagnosis of partial molar pregnancy, went on to get pg with a healthy baby. Now this was with a diagnosis of "Partial". Which is a much better diagnosis than "Complete Molar Pregnancy". If the dr. says to wait the 6mo, this is a very serious diagnosis. Ive never know anyone with this diagnosis to want to risk another pregnancy during this time when the risk of another is so high and would cause another loss.
Has your hcg gone back down to 0 yet? There are so many factors in this terrible type of loss. The woman Im speaking of here, had to go through many rounds of chemotherapy to get healthy again after her loss.
Im so sorry for this to happen to you, and I pray your dr. and you can discuss all the variables involved with this, so that your better educated before you conceive again. good luck to you.

I'm sorry about the molar! However - I know the docs want you to wait becasue they can't tell the difference between hcg rising due to a new pregnancy or if something is going on with the mole. I don't think that's super common, but I don't think most docs even want to risk it.
Can you ask your doc if 6 months is a definite or if they could recheck in 3 months? When I had my loss in December, they were worried about a molar (it wasn't) and they told me that often if nothing pops up in 3 months, they can authorize trying to conceive at that point. I was panicked about the whole 6 months-1 year thing as well, especially because I'm 37.
If not...have you looked at things like acupuncture for fertility? My acupuncturist has a lot of success with it, and the treatments can often take a few months to really take effect - so instead of looking at the next 3-6 months as a waste...it could be a great time to prepare your body for your next pregnancy. Or try other therapies instead.
I hope this has helped a little bit. My heart goes out to you...a molar is scary enough and then to add the wait before TTC...... you are definitely in my thoughts.

I am very sorry for your loss. The member Lori is referring to is LisaG825. I PMed her and asked her if she could give you some information. I am know that it is very serious and it is a good thing to wait because of the risks involved. HUGS!

I am sure that LisaG825 will give you some good information on the molar pregnancy thing.
From everything I have heard it seems like a molar pregnancy is a very serious thing. I wouldn't doubt that your doctor would want you to wait six months even though you don't want to (which I totally understand...waiting is so very hard). However I agree with the previous poster that said maybe ask your dr if this is definite or if he can recheck you in a few months. That is what I would do.
Lots of hugs I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to be told to wait so long when you've already gone through so much to get to this point. I hope that Lisa gets in touch with you to give you some advice. I think it might be worth it to find a doctor who is more of a specialist in molar pregnancy, so you can make sure you are getting the proper care/monitoring and also make sure that you can TTC as soon as it is safe.

Thanks for all the kind words. I did some research about molar pg and the more I look the more scary it seems. I had my HCG tested this morning but did not get the results back yet. I live in a small comunity so I am only seeing a regular family doc. He spoke of referring me to a gyno. I go back on Tuesday so I will hopefully have more info then.
I am a little worried though since we DTD without protection a few times this month. The doc had originally said to wait 2 weeks post D&C.
I guess I will wait for the results.
Thanks again for all the advice.

I am sorry you are having to go through this right now. I had a partial molar miscarriage in December of 2009. I was induced at 15w4d on 12/16/09. I found out it was a pmp in January by the pathology report.
My regular obgyn started doing weekly hcg blood draws. He also started me on methotrexate injections because from his experience my numbers weren't dropping fast enough. I had 3 injections and ended up needing a d&c because I had retained tissue. I still did not reach negative after all that.
I was referred to a gynecologist oncologist. They said my numbers were dropping fine at that time and I didn't need anything else. My obgyn had stopped the methotrexate b/c he had never given more than 3 injections after a molar pregnancy to reach negative. I have been the only patient they have ever had to refer because of this.
A week later, I did not have a big enough drop. My gyn. onc. started me on ACT-D through an IV. I had a treatment every other week. I had a very rare situation because the week after chemo treatments my number would increase. The following week my number would finally drop some. I think my hcg level was around 30 or 50 when I started the ACT-D. I had 6 ACT-D treatments. I also went from a negative back to a positive while on act-d. My dr. decided to stop the chemo and I ended up staying negative.
My gyn. onc. recommended to wait 6 months after my first negative. She said there has been enough research to suggest only waiting the 6 months instead of a year. Some girls are told to wait a year by their doctor. I tried the IUD and did not like it. I had it removed. They made it very clear that I needed to be on something. We did use condoms some of the time after, but mostly tried to watch the calendar or not dtd around O time. We didn't do a very good job b/c I got pregnant almost 3 months after my first negative. My periods were irregular after my m/c. I am currently 26 weeks pg.
With that being said, there is research that if you fall negative (hcg level) within 7 - 12 weeks w/o chemo you only need to wait 3 months. ( I am pretty sure that is the right number of weeks). Some ladies on another board I visit have been told less time than that. If it takes more than 12 weeks w/o chemo the wait time can be up to 6 months. If you have chemo, the wait time can be 6 months to a year.
There is a molar pregnancy board (not on jm). If you google: molar pregnancy baby center you should be able to find it. Every lady on that board has had either a cmp or pmp.
*Make sure you are getting weekly blood draws. I am pretty sure I was told it needs to decrease by 20% every week. If your number is still really high a couple of months later, you need to get an u/s to check for retained tissue. If your number increases, you may need to start chemo.
Once you reach negative you will get 2 or 3 more weekly draws to make sure it is still negative. After that your dr. may have you get it done every other week for a month or two. Then 3 consecutive months after that. Total time should equal about 6 months.
You can always email dr. goldstein (google his email). He is a specialist that deals with molar pregnancies and is very kind to answer emails. He speaks at seminars on mp. Just do not mention what your dr. said for a wait time b/c he will agree with your dr.
Hope this has helped you some. Again, I am sorry you are having to deal with all this. It took me a long time to heal overall. Having to deal with a loss and health issues. Feel free to pm me at anytime!
Oh about DTD, if your hcg is really high I am pretty sure that you will not get pg. You can probably expect your first AF when your hcg level drops to 100 or so. There was a girl on the mp board that was getting weekly draws done and never reached negative. The next week it went up and she has a healthy little girl now.

Thanks you Lisa. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I am truly sorry you had to go through such an ordeal.
I am awaiting the results of my first blood draw (yesterday) and I am scheduled to have one every 2nd week for 2 months.
Wish me luck that I get a negative very soon.
Thanks to everyone else who popped in to give kind words of encouragement.

I would talk to your dr. about getting it done weekly. At least until you have your first negative. It really needs to be watched. If it increases, more than likely your dr. will want a repeat the next week. If you are going every 2 weeks, that means you have wasted an extra week in there. I know some girls have gone 2 weeks in between draws, but for me waiting one week seemed like it took forever.
Hope that makes sense. For me, I just wanted it over as soon as possible. I would have gone insane if I didn't have the weekly draws.
