Like the title states....
I was 9 years old when I had gotten my first period, have been told thru the years conflicting information that I would or would not get menopause early.
Has anyone else heard this or know of crediable sources of information...

I was always told the opposite. The reason you begin earlier is because you have more eggs so your body has more time to release them all. The later you start, the earlier you begin menopause. So far, it's been true in my family. My aunt didn't start until 14 and she went into menopause at 40 and that was after having 12 kids. My mom started at 12 and she started menopause at 58.

I was 8 - yeah 8. I was bowling with my friend Robin and her dad and went in the bathroom and saw blood. I had no idea what was happening. I just screamed and cried and her poor dad had to get some woman at the bowling alley to explain it to me as they couldn't get my mom on the phone (no cell phones or pagers back then).

I could not remember what age I was, but I did remember that me and Blossom (remember that show?) got our period on the same day. In the episode Blossom has a dream that the mom from the Cosbys is her mom and she bakes her a cake for getting her period. I was laying on my bed, hating the world and my mom came into my room, sat down next to me and asked me if I wanted her to bake me a cake! I was so mad at her at the time, but it was pretty funny later.
I totally had to google Blossom to find out what year it was! I was 11.

I can't remember if i was 11 or 12, i know it was in the sixth grade for sure though. I didn't even know what it was and my mother found the evidence (i just threw my panties in the garbage in the bathroom lol) and came to school and picked me up and was ticked off that i didn't tell her.
And promptly gave me some "all about your body" books to read lol.

My mom, as most of the women here know, is awful. I got mine in 6th grade too and hid the evidence as well, except for some reason I hid mine under the bed thinking I'd wash them clean, even though they were white (???). I was scared, I didn't want her to find out. I finally told her about 6 months later, by that point I'd quit hiding the undies and was just throwing them away, and all she said was, "I know. I found your nasty little panties." I was too embarrassed to change my pad at school for years after that, I'd have to go to the bathroom in the middle of class when no one else was in there.
One more reason I hate my mom. Sorry, didn't mean to go off on your thread... I just really, really can't stand her.

I thought Id never get my period, lol......I was 14 and kept telling my Grandma who raised me, "Im broken". Yup, even back then I felt broken!, lol. I read the book "Hi God, Its Me Margaret", any one remember that book? Its ancient, I think they still have it around.
I WILL go into early menapause, but not because of getting af so late. I already went through it for 3yrs while on cancer treatment drugs. This is why my FSH is high. But I look at it this way, if my FSH was not so high.........my body would not be throwing eggs out like their free or something. My RE said probably about 50 for me. A little less than average.

I was 12 1/2 when I got my first period, and now I am 26 1/2 and have slightly elevated FSH already. So in my case there isn't a correlation. Oh, and my mom, aunt and grandma didn't go through menopause until their 50s so I'm not sure what is wrong with me

I was 11 when I got my first period. If my family history holds true I'll have it for a long time. My grandmother was in her 50's when she went through menopause, and my mom is 55 and still gets her period every month with no real signs of it stopping. She had a heart attack when she was 50 and had her period at the time, and the doctors were stunned that she hadn't gone through menopause yet.

YES Lori, I OWN that book the original copy from when I was like 9 years old LOL... might just have to point it out to my SDD.
I have heard the opposite, that the earlier the later... but I've also been told the earlier the earlier and some say it doesn't mean a thing. My mother got her first period late, she was 14 or 15 and that same year she got pg with my brother.

I totally remember that book! and to really date myself the maxi pads did not have a sticky strip on them. I had to wear a belt thing that had hooks on it and you hooked the ends of the maxi pads to the end of the belt. That's how it stayed in place.

I've read people get their periods earlier not because they have more but because they've been exposed to too many hormones in the environment when young but who knows..
It makes logical sense that the earlier you get your period the earlier you run out of eggs but I've never really looked into it.
It just sucks we have a finite amount of eggs!

I was eleven. My mother and grandmother never went into menopause because they both had hysterectomies. My OB said there is a good chance I will have one once we are done having children.
