Hi everyone,

We found out last week that this was not a viable pregnancy. (blighted ovum)

We have the option for a D&C next friday or to wait it out and see if I will just m/c naturally. We have elected to let it happen naturally because our deductible for the d&c is $2000, and I can think of a million other things I would want to do with that money and this is not one of them.

So my question to you all is if you choose to m/c naturally how long did it take your body for the process to start? Is there anything I can take to make it come sooner. My doctor would not prescribe me anything.

Thanks!
Shanda

How far along are you?

I had a blighted ovum and my body didn't start doing anything about it till I was 10 weeks along.

I'm really sorry
Blighted ovums can take a really long time, because your body doesn't recognize that there is no viable fetus. I was told I had a blighted ovum (though I'm not sure because I did end up having a yolk sac) but my body was NOT doing anything on its own. I tried cytotec and even that didn't work. My sac just kept getting bigger and bigger and pretty soon I was gonna start showing. I think I finally had my D&C at 11 weeks. I wish I had listened to the doc earlier and had it at 6 weeks. But I didn't have the financial constraints to worry about like you (free health care). Without intervention it's possible your body might not do anything until like 12 weeks but hopefully it won't take that long. How many weeks would you be?

Is your HCG going up or down? Mine kept going up the whole time, reaching 150,000 eventually.. and I had all the symptoms too which really sucked.

I would be about 8 weeks now. No symptoms and nothing in the sac. My betas from 2 wednesdays ago were 5767 and 5 days later they were only 6000. So they went up a little but not much at all.

I have had a lot of cramping at night and a little brown spotting but im really anxious to move past this!

I had a blighted ovum discovered at my 12wk u/s in October. So it could be very long. I hope for you it passes soon. I dont wish anybody to go through D&C's. I've had 2 and I'm hoping to skip a 3rd one... m/c not completed 2wks ago (everything passed but theres some clots/tissue on the sides of my uterus)

I am so sorry for your loss. ((Hugs)) I do not have health insurance and I ended up going to a clinic for my D&C 2 years ago. It cost me $550 vs. $11,000 . It wasn't the ideal situation but it is basically the same procedure and saved us a lot of money.

I am really sorry, pregnancy loss is so hard.

I wonder why your doctor won't prescribe you anything to jumpstart it? Especially if you want to avoid the D&C, I might ask about a prescription for cytotec/misoprostol (if that's something you want to do). I didn't want to wait mine out, I was 14 weeks when we found out the baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks. So knowing that my body had kept onto it for 6 weeks already with NO sign of letting go, it wasn't an option I wanted to pursue. Good luck, I am so sorry for your loss

I had a blighted ovum about 12yrs ago and it went to 14wks before I hemoraged. Finally ended up having an emergency d&c because the sac tore instead of just coming out. It was the right gestational size for 14wks with a yolk, but never saw the fetal pole.

These really need to be watched closely due to how big they can get. I would go to another dr. or even look into your own means of getting this fixed like Missy suggested.

Im so sorry for your loss, and pray this comes to an end for you soon.

I agree with Missy & Lori... I wouldn't let this go because it can become a very big issue. I would if nothing else seek another opinion. I am so sorry your going through this.

I am so sorry.

I found out almost 2 weeks ago my baby no longer had a heartbeat and stopped growing. It stopped growing about 3 weeks ago now and I am still waiting it out.
I have the same deducatble as you and did the D&C last fall and I also have 30% after the deductable to pay and it cost about $3500 and I still owe $800.00 of that. So I understand trying to avoid a D&C. I am hoping to TTC again and I am afraid I can not do that if I start mounding the hospital bills. If I have another D&C and then the hospital cost of the baby I will be close to $10,000 in medical bills.

I wish everything happens soon for you... I know how hard it is to wait I am living it right now with you.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I agree with the others, don't let it go on. I'm confused about why your doctor would not prescribe you anything either. I think a second opinion is definitely warranted!

Sometimes that does not always work though.... I took the pills over a week ago and here I sit still waiting.
I have no had any cramps or spotting.

I'm glad that's it's starting to happen naturally for you. I hope that it happens as quickly & painlessly as possible so you can start to heal.

I hope it happens naturally for you .. so you don't have to go through anymore medical stuff (but if it doesn't really happen this time I would also recommend going to a clinic to have a d&c).. do you have any painkillers? Not to scare you but when I passed some tissue when I had my m/c it hurt quite a bit. Good luck! And if you bleed too much (like more than a pad an hour) make sure to get to a doctor.
