I went yesterday to see Dh's mom after work. This was the first time I have seen the Assisted Living Home. I fell in love with the place. She is in the newer section which is so close to everything. You come in the door and her room is right there. She has a nice size room. She has a bed, a lift chair, a dresser in her room. She has a nice view out of her window and a huge window sill. She loves seeing the train go by and counting the cars on the train. She doesn't hear the train so it doesn't bother her.
When I walked into her room she was sitting in the chair reading a book. She looks great. She seems to be more relaxed and she seems to be real happy. I asked her how she likes it so far and she said she likes it. She was dressed and her hair comb which if she was at home she would have been sitting in old pair of sweat pants and her hair wouldn't have been comb. She said the only thing she doesn't like is eating with everyone. They have a real cute place where they eat it. Its a room with some table in it with a fireplace. I told her once she gets to know everyone at her table she can talk to them. They have a tables of 4 sitting in the area where they eat. They leave a news letter on the table letting them know who is new and what is happening. They have little contest they can enter and win a prize.
After seeing everything they have to offer there I told her I was jealous and I wanted to move in. They have a beauty shop there and they can go everyone Monday to get their hair done for free. Every Friday she can go get her nails done. Here is a list just some of the activites they have: Bible Study couple times a week (she likes that), Rosay Bead (she really likes that), movie night, game night, bingo, different them party's for the holidays. They do her laundry, clean her room. She doesn't need to do anything.
I asked her how the meals was and she said they were great. For Breakfast they have a list of items like eggs, pancakes and etc. they can pick from and they can have as much as they wont. For lunch they have a list of items like Breakfast they pick from. Dinner they have home cooked meals. Her first night there they had Pork and Sauerkraut with homemade dumplins. They have as much as they like. She said everything so far has tasted good.
Since she has been in there and they have been checking her insulin 3 times a day and giving her the night time shot her surger is the lowest it has been in a long time.
Some of the residents seem to be real nice. Couple stopped by on Monday to intruduce themselves to her and she talked to one lady for almost 2 hours. As I was leaving one of neighbors stopped by to intruduce herself.
I think this move was the best for her. Dh is still in denial that she needed to go to the Assisted Living. I think after he sees her Friday that he will feel different.
I am sorry this post is long. I just wanted to update everyone on how she is doing since everyone gave me so much support. If you made it this far here is a cup of coffee for you.
