You could try binding foods, like bananas. I forget what the other foods are.
Found it. I knew it was an acronym. (BRAT):
B-bananas葉o help replace lost nutrients
R-rice容asy to digest and is a binding starch
A-applesauce葉o provide sugars for energy and soluble (water-holding) fiber
T-toast容asy to tolerate and is a binding starch.

I'd call your doc and see if you can take something like Imodium.

They make anti-diarrhea medicine but I don't know how it reacts to the other stuff you're taking.

I ended up stopping the metformin... as I never got rid of that side effect.. but... depending on how long you have been on it, for many if not most it does go away.. Now when I was on the XR version after about 2 weeks the "frequent potty breaks" subsided . I did take Pepto bismol and that worked for me, Good luck !!

UGH really I asked hubby to bring me some pepto home. Screw it I am going to take it right now. I am not pregnant so whats it going hurt? I am so hard on my body when I am not TTC or pregnant..lol I just need something to coat my tummy or something cause the buring is the worst.
I thought about cutting them in half and just doing 250mg right now and every 2 weeks bump it up 250mg until I get to the dose I am supposed to be at.

I had to work my way into it too. I've also heard/read that certain foods make the side effects worse. Here is what I found...
Foods To Avoid When On Metformin | LIVESTRONG.COM
I did notice that mine seem to be worse when I eat certain things. Hope that helps some!

Going to take some pepto before I eat and then cutting my pill in half for a week or so to see if that helps. If this keeps up I can leave the freakin house cause I have about 15 seconds to get to the bathroom.

So I called my family dr because I am really questioning this diagnosis. My freind who is a nurse said it really worrys her that they put me on a diabetic med and if they are wrong I can get really sick from them messing with my blood sugar.
So I called my family DR just to second quess m OB. The nurse just called me back and said they want to see me first thing in the morning and I need to do a 12 hour fast (UGH another $35.00 co pay). I guess she is concerened with me being on this med to and wants to see me.
I had a full work up last year and she said they checked my glucose then and it was 85.
So now I dont know what to think... UGH
Why is this crap so hard.

I hope they figure it out! I tried Met for less than a week. I couldn't take the side effects. I don't know if you want to try it, but Cinnamon is good for PCOS (if that's why you're taking the Met). I bought some pills in the vitamin section and take them at night.

Im starting to wondering if I even really have it... I wonder if the DR just wanted to toss something at me to give me a reason for my losses?

I'd highly recommend looking into dietary modifications for PCOS. Long story short...a low sugar/sugar forming foods diet plus a complete elimination of all aritifical sweetners (especially aspartame) eliminated my PCOS that I had been diagnosed with 10 years ago. Docs now take a look at my bloodwork and give me the "seriously? what quack were you seeing" look.
Its just an idea...and a little easier on the body than harsh diabetes medications, although when they work, they do work.

I really hope your doctor wouldn't just do that. Metformin can lower your blood sugar. I'm actually going to try cinnamon the next cycle. I've read where it works like metformin and you can take it in a capsule. I would call your doctor and ask them to check if you are insulin-resistant.

I hope your doctor didn't just throw something out. Everytime they check my glucose before I was told I had PCOS it came back normal. When I was growing up my periods were never regular. Sometimes I went 6 months without a period. Being a teenage I loved not having a period so never thought anything about it. Before I got my first period I was very skinny. After I got my period I started gaining weight and not able to loose it. My mom did take me to different doctors but they never said I had PCOS. They always said my periods will regulate on their own. They never did. When I diagnosed with PCOS. I had a period where I bled way to much. Everytime I moved I would soak through two pads and my clothes. My mom had to rush me to the hospoital because I was loosing so much blood. I ended up having emergency d&c to stop the bleeding and ended up having to get blood because I lost so much. The doctor that did my surgery was the one that took the time to diagnose me with PCOS. I have been on Metformin since then. When I was real heavy I couldn't handle the side of effect. (Running to the bathroom) Now that I lost over 100 pounds (although I am still on the heavy side) I can handle the side effects a lot better. I have noticed if I eat a lot of the food I am not supposed to that I have to run to the bathroom.
I hope you fine some answers soon.

I just dont know what to think... I stopped the meds for now.
My periods were never regular but at 17 I went on birth control untio I was about 23. I am only 29 now... was pregnant and breasting 3.5 years of that and you dont really have periods when breastfeeding (at least I did not) Then the month after I weaned her I started getting pregnant again. So I have to true feeling of what my cycles would be if lefta alone for years.
I am a little over weight but not by the standards where most PCOS people are.
I am 5'4 and 155 pounds.... but I am at my heaviest right now. But I also eat really crappy because I hate cooking and don't do it very well so we eat alot of fast food and box meals here. I cut out pop to just 1 a day.
Guess I will see what the DR todat says.
