None of the heartburn medicines are safe for pregnancy anyway, as far as I know.
That includes pepto bismol.

Ditto on it being a pregnancy symptom!
With DD I had heartburn immediately and had no clue what it was. I had never felt it before lol.
As soon as pregnancy was over it was gone.
**It's sort of gross tasting, but drinking a couple swallows of buttermilk worked wonders for me and is safe for pregnancy**

I had bad heartburn when I was pg too. And I totally agree about the Tums! Those are safe with pg but I've heard to stay away from Rolaids.
Good luck!!!!! I really hope you are pregnant!!!

I have it too...it started early for me as a pregnancy sign!! I hope this is it for you!!!
I take Zantac 150...my OB prescribed it (but it's available OTC) and says it's safe. I took it with DD too and it works wonderfully! With DD I lost my voice it got so bad before the Zantac!

You can take Tums during pregnancy, but check with your doctor first. I am trying to avoid taking them b/c I am high risk. Docs did not say I should be concerned about taking Tums though. I take the Smoothies kind too. I take 1 only when it's unbearable... otherwise ice cold water will ease the flare up.
For a natural remedy -- take this on a daily basis. It has worked wonders for me since I have GERD and Heartburn --
2tblspn of Apple Cider Vinegar -- the organic kind that is NOT filtered. It will have chunky stuff in it called the mother. You can mix it with Lemonade to mask the taste. You don't have to chug it down or anything. Take your time.
If you can up the amount your drinking, it won't hurt :-)
It also has a lot of other medicinal properties ... hope it helps you!! (it's a daily basis thing to prevent the heartburn, this isn't a quick fix like tums or cold water)

Good point -- a lot of people believe that if there is heartburn or reflux, there is TOO much acid so a base (like milk) will relieve it. If it is regular heartburn sometimes cold milk can help... but that is b/c it is cold -- like cold water. It shocks the stomach opening area that releases the acid and closes it.
GERD is caused by an imbalance of acid in the stomach... which is why Apple Cider Vinegar (an acid) will help. You need to regulate the acid there and that's what it does. Milk will NOT help a GERD attack and will make it worse. Wish I knew that before experiencing it first hand. You can tell the difference between GERD and Heartburn -- GERD moves up and down your chest. It's strange.

Milk is an acid, just FYI. It is close to neutral, but on the acidic side. Seems counterintuitive, but it's true.
