I was looking back over the hospital paperwork today and had totally forgotten all the big problems that were going on aside from just his delivery. His cord was only 13cm, and March of Dimes says short cords can be an indicator of other problems. 13cm is, from what I've read, the very shortest length that seems to be able to delivery successfully vaginally, but I think I read that average is 55cm. Since I also had velamentous cord insertion, it didn't work out for us, because the attachment site to the placenta was so fragile. In addition to that, the placenta showed that there were parts of it that literally weren't receiving blood flow that should have been. Like, a lot of it, actually... There were a lot of problems prenatally even before he was born. But maybe it was bloodflow issues that caused the placenta to not function properly. Maybe that bloodflow messed up the cord placement, and/or messed up allowing it to grow to a more suitable length. And I haven't done a ton of research on length/weight, but while he was a perfectly normal 20", he was only 6 lbs 9 oz, which is lighter than I've ever seen any of the other babies his length at birth while I've cruised PRs.

I'm thinking of maybe starting it now, and as we're going through the process of interviewing docs next time we're pregnant, asking their opinions on me continuing it based on our experience with Drew, and deciding how to move forward from there.

Thoughts?

I think baby asprin would be a good idea. I don't see anything wrong with starting it.

Have you thought about getting tested for some of the blood clotting problems like I did? Not sure if your insurance would cover it or not...they might since he had cord problems? I don't know if clotting problems could cause problems with his cord or not. Just thought I would throw that out there.

I will be starting myself on baby asprin after tomorrow when they do the other half of my tests.

*hugs*

I don't think the baby asprin will cause a problem... I don't know whether a clotting disorder would affect the cord, but I guess it would be something to ask the doc. I agree with Melissa though about getting the blood panel done - I have a clotting disorder & in addition to the asprin, when pregnant I have to have heparin injections daily - something to think about in any case...

I don't think starting baby asprin would be a problem. Right after I got my BFP I started taking baby asprin. I read where it helps fights against m/c's.

I agree with the other ladies I would take it too. I would also ask your doctor if there is anything else you could take for cord issues. Maybe there is another vitamin or something.

I dont see any harm in it.
My dr told me to take it and they did not find any clotting issues or anything. He called it Voodoo but said for a lot of woman it just seams to work.
I am also going to add extra folic acid with the asprin when I TTC again.

Are they doing a C section next time since you may have cord problems?

I don't see any harm in taking the baby aspirin, but do remember to disclose it if you're having any medical procedures done The only other thing is that some people only take it after ovulation because some sources will say that it can interfere with ovulation... a lot of people take it all cycle though.
