Whew...so glad that is over with. I have been stressing about going.
So as some of you might remember they cancelled on us last Thursday and called me to reschedule. I rescheduled it for today and THEY forgot to put it in their system. So we get there (its over an hour away) and the receptionist is trying to tell me they might not see me because THEY forgot to put my appointment down. I was about to lose my sh*t (especially after all the stress we have been under). We had to overdraw our bank account even to be able to have the gas money to get down there. OMG...
Luckily the genetics counselor said she would go ahead and see us. She was very nice and went over our family background. Her opinion was that she did not see anything from the family history that would be causing our losses. The only thing she seemed to be concerned about was the fact my dad's sister had ovarian cancer and a double mastectomy...and he could have possibly passed that gene onto me and I might need to start having mammograms earlier than most women.
As far as treatment goes for my blood clotting disorders, she and the high risk doctor there said the same thing as my regular doctor...that I would start a baby asprin regimine now and then start Lovenox when I become pregnant again.
She also said my luteal phase seems fine and just my regular cycle stuff in general sounds great.
They also hooked me up to a machine (kinda like an EKG) to monitor my blood pressure. They put electrodes on both sides of my neck and on my sides. They wanted to make sure the blood pressure meds I was on (Labetalol) is doing its job. He said my results were better than most people they see so that is good.
They also did the other half of my bloodwork for more clotting disorders...I think Protein C and S and a couple others. I should hear from them in about a week on those.
All in all it was a good appointment. Hopefully I won't have to go back there. I might have to for some tests for my next pregnancy (if I don't have another loss).
Thanks for reading!

Sounds like a good appointment. I am so happy they saw you. I would have been very pissed if I drove an hour and they didn't see me.
Sounds like you have a plan when you start ttc again.

I'm glad they saw you. I know you must have been PISSED when they were debating whether they were going to or not since it was their fault. It sounds like you had a good appt. I hope that you get the answers that you need to be able to have a healthy pregnancy!

I'm definitely glad they didn't waste more of your time, and especially that once they finally did see you, you were able to enjoy your appointment. You said you really liked the doc, sounds like she needs to get some new people at the front desk who will better represent HER level of professionalism! Canceling on you, forgetting to reschedule you, debating on whether or not to see you, making you sit around and wait until they had the time... I'm wondering if the doc maybe skipped her lunch break to get you in. Glad someone in that place has their head on straight!
The things we talk about here have such funny names... MTHFR, Lovenox...

Erin - I agree
She actually did skip her lunch. She had it sitting on her desk. I hate that the receptionists screw up made her miss it.
She was actually a genetics counselor...not a doctor. However she showed my chart to the doctor there and also explained what was going on to him. He seemed very nice too.
I kinda hate all the poking and prodding stuff but I did like the facility they had there. They could pretty much do anything right on the spot which is cool.
They were going to look at my ovaries and stuff via ultrasound but the doctor ultimately thought my cycles are ok as they are so they decided against it. I wish he would have though!
OH and the counselor did say I will never be on birth control pills again because of the clotting disorders. Forgot about that last night.

So glad your appt finally happened and it put some of your fears to rest. Make sure to follow the advice of the doc for early mammograms, It would save your life. My niece, sister, and daughters will have early ones too, due to my breast cancer. My daughters will start at 25yrs old and my sister already started 5yrs ago. (shes 37 now). Not to scare you, as there is no other person in my family with a history of breast/ovarian cancer. They say most cases dont have a family history!
Sounds like a great game plan for when your ready to ttc again, I cant wait for your little rainbow to bless you!

Thank you for the advice Yeah there is no family history really except for my dad's sister. Do you have to get them every year or what?
