This last cycle Jan/Feb was really the first one that I was using opk's to see when I ovulated. I was up last night doing a lot of thinking. I think I have a short luteal phase and I wonder if this is causing some of the problems with the pregnancy. My cycles are almost always 29 or 30 days long. I am lucky with having PCOS that I have normal cycles. The Jan/Feb cycle every ovulation calculator I put my cycle in said I should have ovulated the end of Jan. I didn't get my smiley until Feb 2nd which means I didn't ovulate until after that. In Jan my period started Jan 15th. I didn't get a postive pregnancy test until Feb 14th. Since I didn't ovulate until after Feb 2nd that would give me a very short luteal phase. Could this be causing a problem with the implatation for the baby? I know B6 is helped Erin to get a longer luteal phase.

I'm not sure what makes you think you have a short luteal phase other than the fact that you ovulated late but this wouldn't really tell you that you have a LP problem, since you got pregnant so we didn't have a chance to see when your AF would come. Have you charted in the past to know for sure how long it is?
In this case your luteal phase was long enough to allow implantation so it doesn't look like there's an issue with the length of it. Did you ever have your progesterone checked during the pregnancy? As you know it's important that it be high during the luteal phase and pregnancy. It does look like you Od late. There are differing views on this but FWIW my RE thinks that late ovulation leads to a higher chance of miscarriage. That's why she triggered my ovulation last cycle when my follicle was mature enough - she didn't want it to get toooo mature. Plus she thinks it has to get fertilized and to the uterus when the lining of the uterus is just right (not just talking thickness here but the microstructure of it) or else there could be problems down the road. That's not to say that late ovulation always leads to problems but REs like to avoid it when they can. At least in my experience.

I think a short luteal phase is more of a problem with getting a positive pregnancy than it is with keeping it viable.

Ditto! And Stacey it sounds like you LP is 12 - 13 days which is great. My LP is 11 - 12 days.

Ok. I am hoping this time when my period starts from the surgery to track it and see if I have a short luteal phase. I don't plan on trying again right now. I just want to track my cycle to see what happens. Besides I have some opks left so I might as well use them.

A normal luteal phase can be anywhere from 10-16 days long... taking soy is a phyto version of clomid which can be used for luteal phase defects. You can give it a try if you think it might help... but it sounds like your luteal phase is just fine Stacey.

I know it's hard not to wonder and theorized why our losses have occured, Lord knows I've definitely done this a bazillion times myself as well. It never hurts to investigate it and bring it up to your doctor if you really are concerned about something.
