Hello Ladies,
I'm Sharon, I was expecting my 4th baby in July. I went for my 20 week u/s and found that our baby boy didn't have a heartbeat. I was scheduled to be induced 5 days later, but ended up having contractions on my own and delivered just before that. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow, since I delivered. I quit bleeding 2 days ago. My DH and I have decided that we do want another baby, not to replace Carter, but to try to move on. I have PCOS and am 36, so I don't feel like I have time on my hands, especially since it's taken out at least a year to get pg with our other children. I've been told that you are really fertile after pg, I'm not sure if that's just an old wives tale or not. Here are my questions, will I ovulate before I get a period, and my milk did come in, will I ovulate if it hasn't dried up?
Thanks,
Sharon

I am really sorry about your loss. I was supposed to be due in July also, but I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it is later in a pregnancy. From what I have read in here, the increased fertility is due to progesterone lingering in your body after the pregnancy. I don't know about the ovulation or milk questions.

I can't answer your question, but I have heard that you are fertile after a loss. I also know of some women who have gotten pregnant while breastfeeding, so I would start using OPK's if you feel you are ready to try again. I am so sorry for your loss. You are very strong to be able to look to the future.

I am so sorry for you loss. I have been following your story. I just had my third loss. I can't imagine going that long and finding out you lost the baby. I don't have any answers since I haven't made it that far. I hope someone in here can help you though.

Erin will probably be the most helpful, but she's not usually on until later. She is in CA.

Shadeaux I remember your screen name from July. Stacy, I'm so sorry for your recent lost, how devasting. I really hope that we're not jumping the gun by wanting to start trying again so soon. I still spend half my days in tears, but I feel like I can't start to move forward without trying.

I am so sorry for your loss.
Your milk might come in but if you are not nursing or pumping it should dry up pretty quick. But that should not effect your ovulation. Being so late in pregnancy you might not O or have a period for close to 2 months. But you never know If you want to start TTC right away and not wait for A/F OPK would be your best bet.
Do you remember how long it took for your period to come back after your children were born? (I hope I am not wrong here you said 4th baby not 4th pregnancy so If I am I am soooo sorry). Unless you breastfeed than that thery wont work because I breast feed and I did not have a period for almost a year.
I think being more fertile after pregnancy or loss is an old wives tale. I even asked my DR about this and he said your odds are still the same.
I got pregnant the first month with DD and I took a 7 month break and even went on birth control. But this last time I started trying before A/F came after my D&C and it took 3 ovulations.... so you just never know.
Once again I am so sorry for your loss I could not imagine having such a late loss.

I can totally understand where you are coming from. I feel like something is messing from my life with not having any kids. Although right now I am so scared of losing another baby and right now I know I can't handle that. I think if you feel like you are ready to try then you should try again.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Not to sure about the more fertile after a loss, sometimes it can be the opposite.
Definitely would recommend opk's though to check for ovulation.

I hate to do this but i have to disagree with that article.
It states "A woman is arguably more fertile in the months immediately following a miscarriage because of the elevated levels of progesterone in her system. Progesterone is a hormone that supports pregnancy and proper implantation of a fetus in a woman's uterus."
If that were true how come when pregnant my level was in the 30's when they checked
When I was not pregnant right after O my level was 12
2 weeks ago before my bleeding started my number was 7
My DR took my progesrone because he said generaly you will start bleeding and miscarry once your levels are 6 or below so he took them to kinda give me a heads up if its going to happen soon or not.
So my question to the author of this artice is if this is true and levels stay elevated how come mine are 7 or below now and I just lost my baby less than a week ago?

So sorry for you loss.
You should maybe check with your doctor to make sure there is no reason to wait. Most doctors recommend waiting until after AF for dating purposes only. I say if there is no medical reason not to try if you feel comfortable then go for it.

I've seen your posts over on the stillbirth board...My baby was stillborn at 22 weeks (she passed away sometime after 20 weeks)...She was born October 14th and I had my first period on November 16th....That first cycle I ovulated late (CD 26)....I also started to TTC right away...It only took me 2 cycles to get pregnant...Oh and I wanted to say that my milk also came in after she was born, and that didn't seem to affect much, it did take a long time for it to dry it though...I hope that helps, and good luck to you

I am so so sorry for your loss. ((hugs))
Most likely you will ovulate before you get your first postpartum AF. Why I might tend to be in the "not as fertile" camp is because as your hormones are re-adjusting your luteal phase might be too short for an egg to implant for a couple of cycles. But, plenty of women have managed to get pregnant right away so it is possible. Good luck to you. I hope you are able to have your rainbow baby very soon.

Yes you will ovulate before you get your AF, So like the other ladies said.. first and formost.. Make sure you have no medical reason to wait. (I don't mean to pry.. but do they have a reason why you lost Carter.. I am so sorry for your loss... HUGS) Second start testing (Pregnancy.. tests... since you you may have HCG in your system.. just to make sure it is negative, so if you do concieve right away thier will be no questions) And once they are negative.. start using your OPK's for ovulation. I hope your stay here is short, and your BFP comes quickly. HUGS

I am so sorry for your loss. It looks like many of the ladies answered your questions. I had a loss at just over 15weeks and my milk came in after my D&C. It didn't take long to dry up and I ovulated on time. I think its all about your body. You were further than me but maybe that can help some. I hope you get pregnant right away.
