I feel like venting, please bear with me.

At my cosmetology school when someone graduates, they get to pick a "theme" and everyone dresses up according to that theme. One of the girls is about five months pregnant and is getting ready to graduate in a few weeks. Her theme is all about babies and she wants all of us girls to have big, fake bellies that day.

I don't know her too well and she obviously doesn't know I've experienced three losses, at the same time I'm obviously hurt and deeply offended. I'm happy for her and she definitely has a right to be excited about her pregnancy, but I refuse to participate. It's just not cute and not funny to me, I take the subject of pregnancy very personally. I'm having really bad anxiety just thinking about having to deal with all that, especially when it feels like it's being thrown in your face on purpose.

I would totally avoid school that day... maybe explain to the teacher why you are choosing not to participate. That must be hard, I am so sorry.

Hugs! I am so so sorry your having to deal with that. Could you maybe discuss this with your teacher and see if you could make up the hours on a different day or different time?

I agree. It would be worth asking. That is such a deeply personal "theme" for you and it's not fair that you would be forced to participate considering what you've been going through.

I agree about trying to work out a way to not be there that day. That would just be pure torture

I would definitely talk to your teacher. I hope you can work something out and you don't actually have to go through this. I would be anxious too.

Thanks everyone. I'll figure something out before her graduation comes, I know for sure I can't miss anymore school though. Couldn't she have picked hippie day or pajama theme like everyone else? Haha.

How miserable And even if you do try and explain it to your teacher, that would still be a rough conversation to have to have (for me anyway.) I hope it all works out!

Like the other ladies said I would try to talk to the teacher. Try explaing to the teacher to participate in something like that would be way to hard for you.

not a good theme at all. I agree talk to your teacher. You could also go, not dress up and if asked- just say- you forgot, it was a busy busy morning for you. wear something that can not be modified.

It is a pretty insensitive theme.

I am hairstylist, so I know how those missed hours add up in school! Do you guys have a make-up day for hours missed? My school did Saturdays to make up missed hours, maybe you can take that day off and do a saturday? It'd probably be worth it for your psyche!
