Dh is full-time military and yesterday when his pay statement came out showing only half a paycheck we were a little freaked out about the possibilities of not getting paid for awhile. We had savings, but still were worried. Luckily it was all avoided with the decisions made last night. I just hope we can all live with the new federal budget.

I am glad we are getting paid but it ticks me off that they waited till the 9th hour to pull their heads out of their butts. I am active duty as well. They all need to go imo.

DH is a federal employee and we were quite worried as well. I'm glad they decided and all but it is quite ridiculous that they waited till the last minute.

Same here, my DH is an active duty Marine, so we were definitely keeping up with the news. One of the reports quoted I THINK Pres. Obama saying that the Dem's had to make some painful compromises for "services people rely on," which makes me think things like Social Security, Medicare, etc. So we'll see what happens when the full bill comes through, likely passed by this coming Friday.

I think all of it is ridiculous! I am glad that they at least reached some sort of compromise for now. But it does look like some people are really going to be in trouble once the cuts start. I am glad though that it looks like they are not going to affect the military. If there is anyone they should be paying it is the men and women who fight for us. My husband is retired army and my BIL is active duty army. Stopping their way would really kill morale. Deployed soldiers should not have to worry about their families back home making ends meet. The whole topic just makes me hot. How long until election time again???

Yeah, but at least the military would have still gotten paid eventually. We would have just had to hold out until dh got back pay. Many federal employees would have been told to stay home without pay . . . and no back pay. That would have been scary.

Many Americans have no clue about what is going on with our country. I was surprised at work when I started talking about the possible government shut down on Friday and half of my coworkers didn't know what I was talking about.
