I got a blood draw this morning for progesterone because the doctor and I were debating when in my cycle I ovulate, he thinks it's earlier than the OPKs say it is, but that's a different story. Anyway, this month, the OPKs were positive earlier and more coincide with when he thinks I ovulate.
At 2-3 DPO, what is normal for progesterone levels? I am about to call to see if they have the results and the nurse will give me the number but probably won't go into the significance of it.
Thanks

When I have my progesterone blood draw they are looking for specific numbers to be around 15 and up. The higher the number the better as that lets the doc know that you have a strong ovulation. I am not sure what it would be 2-3 DPO but I hope you can get your answer soon.
I am getting this done tomorrow myself again. So for example when I have mine done I do it on CD21. In December-2010 I had a number of 20 and the blood work done in the end of March - 2011 the result number went down to 10. So on my next visit with my doc I will have to see what else can be done.

I'm waiting for my first period after m/c to have the 21cd and 26cd progesterone test to be done.....I just wish I could start to ttc this month, but I feel that I need to not ttc so that the dr can get the most accurate results.....

Apparently the hcg test is much faster than a progesterone test. They said they wouldn't have the results today.

I dont know what it will show at only 2-3dpo. Some dr.'s think that if it is above 5 than you released an egg. Usually a cd21 or 7dpo draw is done and they would like it to be above 10-15 at that point. But since your only 2-3dpo, I would expect it to fall around the 5 mark. Good luck!!

I agree with Lori. Also, you should have the doctor re-draw your progesterone levels at 7dpo. It is a more accurate gauge if you actually ovulated or not.

They did mine on a not pregnant cycle and it was 12 I think I was 6dpo.
But I never had strong + opk that month and he never said anything more about it since I got pregant the next month.

To show that you've ovulated you want it higher than 5, preferably over 10 to show it was a decent ovulation. It doesn't matter whether it's 2DPO or 6DPO or whatever.. it's not like hcg where you want to see a daily rise. You just want it to be over a certain threshold.

I'll chime in with those who agree with Lori. I hope your number makes sense and your doctor's office takes the time to answer your question

I would ask why they were doing it at 2DPO instead of 7...it does go up and then down, which is why the usually have you get it at 7DPO...if it is over 5, you ovulated...between 5-10, it is a "weak" ovulation...over 10 and you are good (when I conceived my son, my progesterone was 10 at 7DPO and hes perfect)...for a medicated cycle (Clomid/Femera) they like it over 15, though a lot of docs just put you on progesterone after ovulation (then the number has no significance whatsoever)...
How soon after your OPK is positive do you get your period? I tend to believe OPKs myself...

On a side note, I don't see how it's physically possible to O before your LH surge.. LH is needed for ovulation and it drops after your ovulate. What's your Dr's reasoning for thinking this is possible? I'm really curious because it goes against what I know so if I'm wrong I wanna know lol

Thanks everyone for the info! I will most likely not go in for a follow up test unless this continues to be a problem. My more complete story is below.

Because I was telling him that I had ovulated on CD16 for the past two cycles, according to OPKs, and was concerned that my LP might too short. He said to ignore the technology and that my cycles were so textbook that I was ovulating on CD14. I like this doctor a lot, but I also know when to trust my instinct and there is no way I would get a positive OPK on two different brands at exactly the same time if it wasn't correct. My cycles are 26-28 days.
So, the easiest way to prove I had ovulated on CD 14 instead of CD16 was for me to have a test on CD16. If he was right, the numbers would be a lot higher than they would be if I was right. It all became moot anyway because I got positive OPKs on CD12 and CD13 this month. I still went in for the test more as a curiosity thing since I know a lot of women in here have progesterone issues.

I don't think he knew I had two different brands of tests. I agree, it was contrary to logic. It was my first meeting with him. I switched to him after my miscarriage because he is less paranoid than my previous doctor who practically wanted to remove my uterus to avoid a possible infection (I exaggerate a little, ). He seemed to think my cycles would be longer if I had ovulated later. It doesn't matter. Doctors are just a tool. I listen to what they say when it makes sense, logically, and listen to my instincts when it doesn't. This was just an easy excuse to get a free blood test, so I went along with it.

Okay, I get why he would test you so early after O then. Results?

Unlike the hcg tests they do, the results don't come back the same day. I'll probably call them tomorrow after lunch and see if they're back. I also got vitamin D tested, which takes a week. Hopefully the one doesn't hold up the other.

So they finally called. It was 4. I don't know if that means anything. They didn't seem to think so. I'm just glad I ovulated earlier this month.

They like to see your progesterone numbers over 15 at 7dpo, if I remember correctly they tested you right after you O'd right? If so 4 is a good number and means you O'd!
