Hi girls, I have a question and I thought maybe someone in here could help. I had my first OB appt and u/s yesterday. Based on my dates I should have been 7 w 4 d. U/s showed an empty sac measuring 6 weeks. We did bloodwork to check my hormone levels, and my OB just called and said that my HCG and progesterone levels confirmed what they saw on the u/s, that this is not a viable pregnancy. She gave me the option of waiting a week or so to see if my body takes care of this naturally, taking meds to try to kick-start the process, or doing a D&C. I had her call in the script, but I can't make myself pick it up. I think I would really feel better if my body would just take care of this itself. Has anyone had a similar experience where your body eventually got the message? How long did it take? TIA.

I have heard it takes your body loner with a BO.
I had a missed miscarriage and the baby stopped growing at 8W5D I did not pass the baby until well into 13 weeks and that was even with the help of the Pills. My DR did not want me going more than 6 weeks for fear of infection.

You could try to wait a week or 2 like I did and if nothing happens use your pills.

I am so sorry for your loss

I am so sorry for you loss. I am sorry I don't have much to add. I had d&c with most of my m/c.

Lindsey gave you good advise.

I have not had a natural m/c. But I agree with Lindsey that you could wait a week or so and if nothing is happening then take the pills. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Lots of thoughts and prayers being sent to you.

My 2nd loss was a BO. I don't have the dates off the top of my head but mine was found when I started bleeding slightly. I still made them wait (a week? Can't remember) and do multiple U/S to give me a peace of mind that I had in fact lost the baby. The doctor was fine with all my requests and told me that I could wait up to 2 weeks but since my first m/c required a d&c because I didn't miscarry on my own that I probably would have trouble again. It's a personal decision but my heart wouldn't let me give up my pregnancy too quickly even when I knew all hope was lost. Of course that was crazy grief-stricken brain thinking, but I think it really allowed me to know I had done everything I could and that any chance of the doctor's being wrong was gone and it really was over. BO was a really really hard one for me. If you are that undecided about starting the pills now, and your doctor is okay with it, then waiting a week or so might be the best thing for you right now. I wish you the best.

I started bleeding 2 days after I was told that my pregnancy was not viable. I passed everything within the next 2 weeks. So sorry I cannot help you much.

I would wait a week though just to make sure.

I am dealing with a BO right now as well, and I am 10 weeks with no sign of miscarrying. I will meet with my doctor on Monday to decide a course of action. The website The Misdiagnosed Miscarriage Site has a lot of informtion and stories about blighted ovum and really helped me through the last four weeks. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry for your loss..
I had a BO back in the fall and my body did NOT get the message. I ended up having a D&C at 11 weeks!! I was gonna start showing I waited till I was absolutely sure in my heart that there was no baby and I took cytotec. That didn't really work and the sac continued to grow and my hcg kept going UP as it should with a normal baby. So you never know how long it might take.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have not had a BO but I know some women here have and with it your body may not recognize it's not viable for a very long time. I believe the one lady waiting over 16 weeks and then ended up with a D&C. Maybe if you feel more comfortable go back in a week and have another ultrasound before you make your decision (just for piece of mind). *Hugs*

I had a blighted ovum that went to 14wks. I ended up hemoraging, bad at home. Got a d&c when I went to the hospital. The sac grew to the appropriate size of 14wks, but only had a confirmed yolk in it. (no fetal pole was ever visable). I went week after week looking for a baby and finally just started gushing blood at home one night. It was one of my worst loss's I had experienced. The hcg kept going up and giving the dr.'s some hope....giving me hope.

Take your time with this one, but not too long. When the sac gets too big it will tear, and this can be scary. Im so sorry for your loss, thinking about you and little one.

I was just told I had a blighted ovum and I started bleeding at 10 weeks 5 days, that was on Wednesday. I have an appointment on Friday to go over my ultrasound and talk about what is going on. I hope that your body starts to realize it soon, it is hard when you know that your body isn't gettingmthe point

So sorry for your loss. I have not had a BO but others on the board have and it seemed that they waited a long time for their body to realize that something was wrong. I would take some time to make sure you are ok with the decision before taking the pills.

HUGS...take care.

Hello. I'm so sorry for your loss! I'm still in my miscarriage cycle, waiting for my first period to come. It was also a blighted ovum. I was diagnosed at 7 weeks and 1 day with a blighted ovum. I wanted to wait and miscarry naturally, as my doctor suggested. Especially because I wanted to make sure that I was indeed not carrying a baby anymore. I had a repeat ultrasound at 8.5 weeks which confirmed an empty sac. Please make sure that you know if you have a tilted uterus, as that can make it hard to get an accurate ultrasound in the first trimester. Also, make sure your dates are correct. If you are positive about when you ovulated, and the dates are right, your uterus isn't tilted, and your hcg levels are too low, or are lowering, feel free to schedule a D&C or take the misoprostol to induce the miscarriage. Or wait. Like I did. But I waited and waited and waited. Finally at just about 12 weeks, so about 4.5 weeks after the diagnosis, I had enough waiting, and took the meds. I bled HEAVILY for a few hours with the meds, and then spotted for 4 weeks after. Pain in the rear for sure. It probably would have been easier to take the meds earlier, as the sac was still growing as I was waiting and hoping to miscarry naturally. So, you really need to decide for yourself what you want to do. But just so you know, you need to wait 3 cycles after a D&C to start trying again, as they scrape the uterine lining thin, and it will need that 3 months to recover so you will not have a higher risk of miscarriage. Hope I could help in some way!
