Those of you who have had an ectopic and did the shot not the surgery how long did you bleed for?
Since last Thursday I have had bleeding and it seems to get heavier every day. For some reason in my head I was expecting maybe to bleed 5 days or so like a period.

I was going to post this in Pregnancy loss room but it seems no one there has been though this and this is a more active room.

I had a "suspected ectopic" my HCG kept going up and down and it was too early to see on an ultrasound but the doctor does think it was ectopic so they also gave me the Menthotrax shot.

Just a quick question did the shot hurt you? Like not the needle but the medicine literally after 10 seconds it felt like someone punched me in the shot area and I started crying... Maybe I'm a wuss

But with my bleeding it started very slowly spotting and got worse and worse and worse I bleed for about 2 weeks... One time being so bad I just sat in the bath with the faucet running... So it sounds exactly what happened to me. I never want that shot again I lost hair, got acne, everything! But I guess better than loosing a tube.

Mine is a suspected ectopic as well because he never really saw anything in my tube just "thought he saw something". But my symptoms and lac of a sac any place else with my levels being that high there was nothing left but an ectopic. But I also had a large cyst in the ovary where the tubal was so he said it was blocking his full view.

I didnt not think the shot was that bad. I was in so much pain that I think it was minor compaired to the pain I was having. When I put presure on the leg of the side he gave the shot in for about 10-15 steps it hurt a little but was gone by the time I got to my car... but the more I walked and moved the more my tummy hurt.
My DR said 1 dose of this shot will not make you lose your hair and I have not noticed any of that. As for acne I always have it anyway from PCOS so I have not noticed much with that.

2 weeks prior to this I started spotting brown and it slowly turned pink... but was told at the time its from the suppositores and I now think it was not... SO I am now on week 3 of bleeding/spotting

Once I got the shot I researched it and there were ladies who bleed up to 6 weeks!!!! So let's really hope that's not you...

My doctor also told me one dose wouldn't do anything but I called him when I would shower and my hands would just be covered in hair and he said "well it affects everyone differently" I was so frustrated.

Did they tell you how long to wait TTC? They told me at least 2 cycles to make sure the MTX is out of my system.

I assume they will want to do a follow up appt with me. I have no clue. I did blood draws Tuesday and looked at my results online and my HCG was 1992 and they did a metabolic panel as well and its showing signs of liver damage from the shot... so waiting to see what that means if it really means anything.
I am to scared to call and ask. I figured if it was really bad they would have called me by now.
All I know if I am supposed to do weekly HCG draws to make sure its dropping as it should.

Let's hope it goes down fast right???? So you can start trying again ASAP.

Its a hard medicine for the body to handle... I was so nervous to get it.

I bled for 60+/- days, but that's unusually long... it was rough. I also lost my left tube which might have had something to do with the long term bleeding, but not 100% sure because they didn't follow it after I was treated with the methotrexate except for the hcg levels.

It kills me there is not much info out there about this. If it was a regular miscarriage and you bleed like this longer than 2 weeks they would be concerned but with an ectopic it seems you can go on for a long time and they dont find it out of normal.

Did your DR want to do a HSG? Mine wants to do one when my levels are zero.

I had some cramping this morning and then just had some real heavy bleeding and passed a large clot... maybe the baby?

Is this normal?
I hope this means maybe my bleeding will slow down.

Hi, Im lurking- but in 2007 I had a confirmed ectopic in my left tube. I went in because I had started spotting/bleeding red. They waited about a week or so checking hcg and doing ultrasounds. My levels were increasing- just not fast enough, but they couldnt see anything on the u/s. Finally when my levels were around 8,000 my dr sent me to u/s and sat in with me and demanded that the tech scan until she figured something out. Sure enough tucked way up in my tube was the ectopic pregnancy. It was at a 3 already, so I was borderline on whether to have surgery or try the shot. I decided to try the shot and be monitored very closely. I was given a large dose of methotrexate, then my dr followed up with hcg every 3 days.

The first check up, my levels had already dropped, but by the next blood draw they were rising again, and the pregnancy was still visible on the u/s (same size). Long story short- I ended up with 3 separate MTX shots before my body finally reabsorbed the pregnancy. (I had no major side effects from the shots- my kidney/liver levels were a little off but they straightened themselves back out pretty quickly).

So, my bleeding lasted about 4 weeks after my first shot....but that is likely because it took so long and multiple doses for the mtx to work correctly. With my bleeding I passed lots of gray tissue. It really freaked me out, and I passed some once while at the dr and showed him and he said that it was my lining in my uterus shedding out (it had thickened because it knew I was pregnant)

My dr at the time did tell me to wait 2 full cycles before trying, to give my body time to heal and be free of the drugs. But I took a long break because it was what was best for me at the time. I did not have to do an HSG, though.

Just a side note...every ovulation and period I had after my ectopic, I had an achy type pain/pinch on my left side (where my ectopic was). I freaked out about it the first time and had them rescan me for peace of mind. But I eventually figured out that since having a type of "trauma" in that area- it is just always going to be more sensitive than it was before.

Sorry this was so long....I just thought I would share with you, because I know I was so hungry for information and experiences when it happened to me. I hope that your body gets through this process quickly for you, and healing comes in all ways. (((hugs)))

Thank you for sharing. I don't think what I passed was lining because when my dr did my ultrasound he commented on how thin my linning was.
I have heard your body can absorb it or your body can expelle it. Everything looks like my first miscarriage that was very early.
It just feels like a double whammy first the ectopic and pain that goes with it and now a week later bleeding cramping and passing clots and other stuff.

I had a HSG June 6th months after my ectopic and that's when we found out I had total loss of my left tube and narrowing of my right.
