I had a D&C on April 10 at 10 weeks. Tomorrow will be 6 weeks post op.

I went to the doc 1 week post op because I felt like I was getting an infection. Lathargic, felt a bit hot but didn't run a high fever or anything. Doc said it looked like a mild infection so put me on antibiotics.

A week later I had my 2 week post op appt. The exam included just a physical check...no checking on HCG numbers or a post op sonogram.

4 weeks post op I got HORRIBLE uti. The worst I ever had. Doc called in meds..didn't do an exam or anything.

Now it's almost 6 weeks and no period. I called the doc today to discuss and they said since I had an infection to wait 2 more weeks then we'll go from there.

I just don't know what to do. She said they didn't want to do anything further at this point. So I'm thinking I should see another doctor and get a second opinion. I guess I could take a pregnancy test and make sure it doesn't come back positive which would mean that the pregnancy hormones are gone. 6 weeks post op...would the levels be gone by now?

I don't know. Thanks for any advice.

It can take 4-8 weeks for your cycle to return. And that is just an average. It can also take awhile for the hormones to leave your system. Although typically with a D&C it will be quicker. I think your dr is doing what most doctors would do. You could get a second opinion however my guess is your dr just doesn't want to give you more meds without a real need. He probably wants to let your body do what it needs to naturally. I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope AF shows soon.

I am so sorry for your loss. It really depends on how high your levels are as far as how quickly they go down. I really do suggest going to see another doctor. Have them check your hormone levels, check and make sure you do not have retained tissue, and they can also see if you have ovulated. HUGS! We are here for you. I am so sorry your having to deal with this all. As far as not getting AF yet it took me over 8 weeks after my first loss and I had to go on meds to bring on AF. Usually after your levels go below 10 your body will ovulate or AF will start.

Well, I guess my biggest concern is retained tissue. I would think that since I had an infection they would have done a sonogram to look? Or checked my levels to make sure they are going down. They haven't done these things. I don't know.

Thanks for your response.

Thanks, Shortcake

It never hurts to go with your gut instinct if you feel like something isn't right then it probably isn't. I would just get a second opinion and if everything checks out then no harm no foul

Take a PG test, if it is negative, you should be ok (though that first wait to get AF is torture)...if positive, then get very insistent with the DR that they need to confirm that everything is out...
GL, and I hope that AF comes soon for you...

Sorry for your loss It took me 6 week to get AF after mc and d and c though never got an infection so that may delay it. I will pray you get AF soon.

I think your Dr is putting off doing an U/S because it was a d&c - they usually get a good look inside you to make sure it's all scrapped out. If your Dr did the surgerty it might be an ego thing....he thinks that he didn't make a mistake and leave some tissue behind. I would def get a second opinion if you do think something seems off - - like Katie said, no harm no foul.

Thanks for this advice (and everyone else). I did take a pregnancy test and it was neg...so that's good. Yes...the waiting is killing me. We will probably wait 4 months or so before we try again but I'm just ready for things to be back to normal.

My OB said 4-8 weeks for first AF, and to call her after 8 weeks if I hadn't gotten AF yet. Mine returned 4 weeks after my m/c, but my m/c was really early... my hcg levels never got above 60. I hope you start feeling like your body is getting back to normal soon!

Thanks for asking, Shortcake

I'm actually doing good! Took the preg test and that made feel alot better. I started my period (or something like a period) today. (TMI) Just brown right now...but hey...it's something.

I think I was just getting frustrated with my docs (well nurses over the phone). I just wasn't getting questioned answered or information that I needed.

Doing much better, thanks!

Glad to hear you got AF, after a D&C the wait was really scary for me. I didn't get AF until 7 weeks after delivery and D&C. I was starting to flip out thinking something was up.
