Last night I found a red spot on his neck... it has a little red dot in the center and I'm almost positive that he was bit by a tick and that this is the "bulls eye" meaning he has contracted Lymes disease. UGH! Our normal vet doesn't charge a lot but he is on vacation so I have to call around at 8 when they open and get prices... I can never catch a break and I'm so worried about him.

The same thing happened to my dog last month, my vet said it is very rare for a dog to gets a bullseye as a symptom and it is more likely just a reaction to the bite. They can't even test for lyme this soon, he said to watch for other symptoms like lethargy, stiff joints, lack of appetite and bring him back if he shows any of those. I wish they could have told me that over the phone...lol. But good luck, I understand how special pets are and I freaked when I fist saw it too

Katie, I hope your doggie doesn't end up with Lyme Disease. I think that if your dog just got bitten by the tick, you wouldn't be able to tell for several months whether he had Lyme Disease or not. My poor dog had Lyme Disease last year... she gotten bitten by a tick in October, but didn't start showing symptoms until March or April, and her main symptom was limping. I agree that your dog might just have a reaction to some kind of bug bite.

Just got home from the vet. The vet said it is very unusual for a dog to get the "bulls eye" but that he is almost positive that's what it is. He put Remi on pills for 2 months for Lyme's Disease. It's a very common thing in our area and he said more and more people & dogs are contracting it. He did say with catching it so early we should be fine as long as we get these meds in him.

Do you use any type of tick prevention? In our area, we have to have our dogs on heartworm prevention and flea and tick prevention. It is EXPENSIVE!! Especially for 3 dogs.

We do but he had an allergic reaction to advantix when we put him on that a month and a half ago... so the vet told us to wait 2 months and try frontline.
Thanks ladies! He is acting a little better so hopefully it's working
