Hi ladies,
I got my BFP a week ago and have been getting my betas done every day and they're great, better than in any of my past pregnancies
I originally wasn't going to post my BFP here because I didn't post ALL the time so I didn't want you guys to be like wth, kwim?
But I thought I would in case it might help anyone.
The one thing we did differently this cycle is that the first week of my cycle, my RE told me that back in October they had found traces of ureaplasma in my DH's semen sample. This is a nasty little bacteria that is associated with problems conceiving, miscarriages and preterm labour as well as problems in the newborn. The bacteria actually attacks the embryo if it gets into the uterus. They didn't test me for it, but we assume I had it too since it gets passed around sexually. In any case, we both went on a one week regimen of doxy(cyclen?) in the beginning of the cycle.
I noticed something was different right away because for the FIRST time in 18/19 months I actually had EWCM, which I had never had before. Since the bacteria is found in the mucous, it makes sense that it might affect the quality of CM.
I don't have any proof that the antibiotic treatment is what helped, and I'm still early in my pregnancy (4.5 weeks) but it's worth it to look into this issue because the treatment is so simple. In fact my RE told me that with many REs, it's standard to have this treatment whether or not the bacteria is found. I am also being treated for my hypothyroidism (since January) and maybe that is helping too.
Sorry that was long but I hope it might help someone. Good luck to you all!

I got my bfp the month after we were treated for the same thing. Im 29 weeks now. Its far more common than people realize and if Dr's made it a routine swab at our annual physical, there would be a whole lot less heartbreak in couples ttc.
I wish you well, and I hope that everything is perfect with your little one!
I think your post is important, Ive posted myself on the same topic, as has Celena. With all of ttcal's new ladies, Im sure lots havent heard of this before.

Oh Judy!!!!!!!!!!! I am totally excited for you sweetie. You have been through so much. Glad to hear your betas are doing great. Super sticky dust to you. xoxoxoxo
The first month I went to my RE he put both me and DH on the same anti-biotics as you took. He told us about that bacteria and also I was getting a sonohis done so it was good to be on the antibiotics. I am glad you brought it up for the girls here, it isn't something that an ob tests for.
Yeah! Super happy for you!

How long do you have to be on the antibiotics? is this something an OB can test for? How is the test performed?
I might be going in for bloodwork to test if my blood is thin enough after taking baby aspring every day...thought I might ask about this ureaplasma thing.

I'm glad you ladies didn't mind that I posted. After my two losses and 1 year TTC I thought I had researched and heard of EVERYTHING - but obviously I hadn't heard of this.
Tobi and Missy I'm so glad everything is going well for you! And congrats Erin
Melissa, I think the common way to test for this is a swab, just like your annual. My RE put us on the antibiotic for 7 days (2 pills a day each) but on the net I have read of 10 day and 14 day regimens also. You should both be treated together at the same time. I would think it's best if you're both tested, since you might be negative for a period of time while your DH still has it and he can pass it to you later (and vice versa). Good luck!

Congratulations to you! Thanks for posting about the ureaplasma bacteria test and treatment. I will bring that up to my RE that I will start going to in July.
