After reading through the responses to the ideal families thread, I thought I'd offer up this story about some friends of ours. It is meant as encouragement for those of you who have been trying for a long time and are feeling discouraged about your biological clock ticking. Our neighbors down the street decided that they were not going to have children of their own. They are both teachers, and I think they felt that was where their calling was. When the wife was 45 and the husband was 47, they got the surprise of their life... nine months later Tom was born. They were thrilled, even though it hadn't been something they EVER thought would happen at that point in their lives! Fast forward to a year ago... they got another BFP! They were SO shocked. When they went in for their u/s, they found out they were having twin girls (the Mom is a twin, so their chances were good, especially at their age). They both started crying, the wife because she just couldn't believe it, and the husband because he was TERRIFIED! Katherine and Anna arrived in March of this year, Mom was 48 and Dad was 50 when they were born. Obviously they are an amazing exception to the rule, but I thought I'd share their story with all of you... here is to never losing HOPE!!
