I am 7 weeks pregnant. About 4 days ago I started bleeding. It was pretty moderate, with no cramps. But being a first time mother I was worried, so I went to the ER. They did a ultrasound, showed me the heartbeat, and said everything was ok. That it is sometimes normal to bleed in early pregnancy. Well the next day I was bleeding a little heavier, so I followed up with my regular OB/GYN. They repeated the ultrasound, and said that the babies heart rate was low. She wanted me to come back on the 5th of July, and be rechecked. So I went home, with no questions really answered. Well, later in the day the bleeding really picked up, this time passing tiny red clots, and cramping HEAVILY. So I went BACK to the ER. Again, they repeated ultrasound said the babies heart rate was REALLY low, and that with the bleeding and heavy cramping, I was pretty much in danger of a miscarriage. They sent me home with some pain killers, and that was it....

My question is how should I prepare myself? What should I expect, and if there is any chance whatsover of carrying this baby to term?

I'm scared, and sad

Im so sorry for this to happen to you. I know how scared you must feel. If you have gone back to the ER and they said the h/b was REALLY low, emphasizing that it was lower than last time they checked, then it does sound like an impending m/c. With that said, I dont know what the actual h/b was and was the baby measuring to date? Without all of those questions answered, its hard to be definite.

If your body is trying to "take care of nature", you should expect to pass the baby in the next few days, if your bleeding/clotting is really picking up already. You might experience some "contractions" cramping heavy until all passes. If the bleeding is so heavy that your soaking a pad every 20min, then you need to go back to the ER. Either way, a follow up is definitely needed to render a final answer on your pregnancy.

Praying for you, and again, Im so sorry for all of this to happen to you.

Ditto the advice above. You will want to follow up with your OB after the miscarriage. She will most likely want to do a gentle pelvic exam to see if the cervix is open or closed, and will either follow up with bloodwork or at least a symptom check within a week of your miscarriage starting. I am so sorry you are going through this. Praying for you!

Forgot to say... if you are RH negative, you will need to get a Rhogam shot.
