Hey ladies!
So recently I was put on Metformin to lower in insulin by end of September so I can start TTC. Well with taking the Metformin I am also supposed to be on a low carb diet... and thats the part I am failing at!
I cant seem to stick to my "low carbs" I end up sneaking a cookie or eating potatoes, or something!
DH always kinda gives me crap when he sees me eating something I shouldnt.... but truly he really doesnt understand how hard it is! (He eats so much! Whatever and whenever he wants ) I feel like I am in this alone... like I have to make all these lifestyle choices in order for US to have a baby.
Yes I understand eating low carbs can help me closer to my rainbow baby and I want that more than anything so you think itd be motivation enough but I still cant just stick to it.
I just feel so horrible about it. I really am trying so hard... Its just such a lifestyle difference :/
Advice?
I guess this is just more of a rant.
Sorry guys.

I don't have any real advice for you, but my husband was on a low carb diet for quite a while. He really missed bread but I ended up finding a cool recipe!
Flax Bread Recipe - Low-Carb Focaccia-Style Flax Bread
Thought I would share
What also helps is not to buy the cookies or have them in the house. Write yourself notes and tack them around the house. Keep a chart and give yourself treats (such as a new book or manicure ect... ) when you reach small goals of 1 week no carb ect... Good Luck, it is hard!

I could have written that myself last year when I started metformin. It is an EVIL pill to me. I actually stopped taking it 3 months ago. I told my doctor the trouble I had been having on it and she agreed it's just not worth it. As far as the low carbs allow yourself to have some stuff.. if you don't you will end up binging and eating it anyways. And your DH ... my DH is the same way which makes it 10x harder. Maybe ask him to talk a walk with you every night and explain how it's making you feel doing this alone.

Katie, did Metformin make you really sick? Everyday I feel so nauseas from it and it just seems to make me lethargic all the time.

Metformin made me exhausted, sick, diarrhea, and basically just made me feel like poo! I put up with it for as long as I could but it just was not helping me.. just making me worse.

Wow It did not do any of this to me... Only cramps and diarrhea for the first couple weeks. I have noticed I am eating a little less now since being on it (going on month 5) and I have lost 17 pounds now.
I'm sleeping better, not having to potty all the time and several times at night.
But I'm sure like everything else maybe this is the meds I need and it's not once size fits all.
I wish you luck with the diet ice cream and cake are always my problem.

I'm not doing low carb, but I'm doing no wheat, no sugar, no fast-processing carbs, no cow dairy (you get the idea)...
I made up a menu of food that I like that I can eat and planned exactly what I eat every single meal for the entire week, so I know exactly what I'm eating every day and I know what I eat if I'm still hungry - for example, tonight we made sweet potato pizza for dinner - but I was still hungry, so I ate an avocado and oatmeal with strawberries in it and I'm good now...
The key is to always have a plan if you are still hungry for me...good luck!

I hope you like the bread - I still make it, my boys love it!
For a "chips substitute" you can eat pork rinds, they are carb free.
Here is the best sweet treat. Mix diet rootbeer with some heavy whipping cream. Tastes exactly like a rootbeer float, low calorie and carb free!
Here are some other snacks you can eat.

I'd still be on Metformin if I could find a doc to prescribe it for me.
I ended up switching to the Extended release- I was constantly on the toilet with the regular.
the ER really did help with the symptoms, and I noticed I felt worse if I ate ice cream.
I have been doing my best to loose weight on my own, and it is so hard! My hubs isn't all that helpful either, it would be nice if he were

I feel your pain! I'm always running to the toilet. Maybe I'll be asked to switched to the extended release cause this constant diarrhea is really getting on my nerves....
Loosing weight is extremely tough I've been trying to do it for months can't get the hang of it!

That makes me so happy for you sweetie. It is hard to diet, I have been lucky to be on the smaller side but my husband seems to always be struggling and I see what he goes though. Right now he has to lose 100lbs and going back on the no carb diet because he did so well. (He is a huge snacker )
Do you like spinach? If so here is an awesome "mexican type" cheese dip for you. You can actually put it on all of your vegetables or anything... It is super yummy and my husbands moms secret recipe.
Cut up one onion in small pieces, microwave for 4 minutes in a glass dish. Add jalapeno peppers microwave for 2 more minutes. Add some heavy whipping cream and cut up a block of velveta cheese. Microwave for about 5 more minutes. Voila - Yummy simple cheese sauce with just a hint of spicy
Did you used to bread any of your meats with bread crumbs? You can substitute "shaker cheese" (Parmesan cheese) instead of the bread crumbs - still tastes sooooooo yum!
What kinds of foods are you eating now? I will dig up some more fun stuff for you to eat. While you are out with the pastas and potatoes you aren't limited to eating cardboard.
as a side note: I have seen a few girls in here through the years lose some weight and go on to have their rainbow babies.

I know how hard it is to say no to good food...I need to get a handle on it as well. it sucks I love carbs too so I am not much help. Sounds like some of the other girls here have some nice suggestions though food wise.
and id have to agree that the best way to not eat that stuff is to not buy it. I feel you though...my husband can eat practically anything he wants and stays thin.

It is very hard to stay on a diet. I lost over 100 pounds couple of years ago. After I met Dh I started to gain some weight. I have been trying to watch what I eat. I am lucky that Dh isn't a snacker. I am the one in the family that is a snacker. Now that I am home I am doing all the cooking so I am trying to cook more healthy. What I found that helps me to loose the weight is I walk everyday. I found a place that I like to walk so its not like a chore to workout. I take my camera with me which helps me to loose track on what I am doing.

I found eating more protien helped me when I was trying to curb/cut carbs. I would have steak and eggs for breakfast instead of toast or cereal. I will try to find the site I used. It was helpful for food ideas. I am sorry you are having such a hard time. It stinks to diet.
