Hi ladies, I've never had an early miscarriage so I do not know if this is common or something that happens with a loss after the 1st trimester. Here's my question:

OK so before I got pregnant, I always had bad cramps the first day of my period. After we lost the baby, I waited 7 weeks for my period and didn't have any cramps. In my 3 periods since the loss, I've had no cramps at all. Do you guys know if that is normal or a bad sign? I've always been concerned about Asherman's since I got a D&C.

I've always hated my cramps but now I feel like I should be having them since they were the norm for me. Could this mean I'm not ovulating? And furthermore is it possible to bleed without ovulating?

Thanks!

My cycles after my losses have been altered. I never had cramping before and now I can tell you the exact minute that I'm Oing. I know lots of ladies have said their cycles have changed since a loss too and this might just be you new "normal".

You can still ovulate even if your not having cramping. And you can still get AF even if you don't O. It would just be an annovulatory cycle. If you feel like your not Oing your doctor can always do a BT around 7dpo to check your progesterone level and to make sure you did O.

I'm so sorry for your loss sweetie..

I had an early loss but I did have messed up cycles after that. Mine were painless and very light and short (I also only had one every 2 or 3 months) for about a year after then they straightened themselves out. That is very unusual though. I had some problem that my Dr was never able to lay a finger on. My periods did straighten themselves out and before I got pregnant with my little girl, I had like 8 normal periods. It's very common for cycles to be screwy after a loss either early or late, but if after like 3 or 4 cycles, my OB told me to come in if they were still abnormal. Like I said, don't let my case scare you, as mine was very unusual.

My cycle length changed but my severity didn't really alter. However my dr told me after my loss at 15 weeks that it's just like any full term pregnancy. My body could change its cycle in any way due to the hormone changes. After 10-12 weeks your hormone levels even out and even start dropping in preperation for delivery (not alot of drop). So not having cramps could just be your new normal. And after your next pregnancy it could go back. Wohoo for no more cramps .

My loss was at 9 1/2 weeks so definitely a lot earlier than yours but I did notice that I had zero cramps my first AF after m/c. It just kinda snuck up on me, before the loss I would cramp for a couple of days before and I knew AF was coming. As far as Asherman's I think it causes a very light or no AF. Do you have a good flow even though you are not cramping?

Thanks so much for your responses. As an update, I called my doctor to schedule my annual appt. and on the phone I spoke to a nurse and she was super nice about answering my question about the cramping subsiding (although she did ask if I just had a baby because my due date for Liam is basically right now in July. Sad.) but she did say that it was very normal for the cramping to go away. It's just about hormones which do change after any pregnancy, but especially once the pregnancy reaches the second trimester.

Shortcake: I did not know that you could bleed fro ma anovulatory cycle. I'm hoping I ovulated and I do have EWCM and sometimes ovulation pain and this is the first cycle I've been charting but my BBT did rise and has stayed up for a couple days.

JessP: That's good to know about about he cramping coming and going with various pg's. I spoke to the nurse about that and she said it was normal too

Nala: I have the same thing as you, there is like no warning that AF is coming. I will have like an hour of achy legs (which was always one of my AF signs) but no cramps. As far as flow, it is pretty steady, usually tapers off after 3 days but very heaving on the first two days.

After my first loss I had several annovulatory cycles and they were a little longer than a normal cycle but I bled with all of them. You still have your lining just you didn't ovulate.

My cycles didn't change after any of my losses (6 weeks, 11 weeks with blighted ovum and I'm currently going through one which I'm going on 8 weeks so we'll see) but yes it's normal not to have cramps with AF. I've never had a crampy AF or any type of PMS except when I've taken progesterone - guess I'm just lucky!
