If you need something safe and small sedan that is fuel efficient then a Honda Civic LX. As I don't have mine anymore I am going to include a pic of what I used to have. It has great gas mileage, a mp3 input to listen to a mp3 player or ipod. The speedometer is digital and it has a tire pressure gauge on the dashboard display, also it has a icon for when oil change/maintenance is needed. Build and Price a Honda - the Official Honda Web Site
My current vehicle mazda 5 year 2008 is very good too (V4): here is an picture album of it: Snapbucket pictures by guslovisa - Photobucket This has a mp3 jack as well, gas mileage not as good as the honda but more room. You have arm and leg room in the front seat and then a row for passengers plus a bonus row that will fit small kids.
My DH has aVW passat wagon: it also drinks a bit more gas at is a V6. 2008 Volkswagen Passat
You can also check out New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews and Pricing - Edmunds.com as this is a research site where you can get useful information about pros and cons on the vehicles that you are interested in. Good luck on your search.

2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Pros - it's awesome (hybrid, leather interior, nav system, sunroof)
Cons - it's semi-expensive

I have a 2008 Chevy Equinox Sport.
Pros- It is relatively affordable.
I have the Sport model so it's got better HP and torque, and it's got low profile tires, and handles better than the other models.
Get decent gas mileage.
Has good cargo room. The back seat moves forward and back which is helpful.
Cons- you get a lot of road noise.
Hmmm, reading that over guess it's not too bad. It wasn't my first choice, but I didn't want to spend $40K on a new car at the time. (old pick btw, but the only one in photocbucket)

I have a 2008 Jeep Compass. The color is Sunburst Orange Pearl, which I think is hysterical.
Pros: relatively good gas mileage, good car for women because it's big enough to feel safe but small enough to be able to see over the hood, plenty of room, an a/c adaptor so you could blow dry your hair while driving if you wanted to (although I don't recommend it), the dogs love it, all wheel drive with the option of putting it into 4 wheel drive
Cons: even with the all wheel/4 wheel drive, it's not that great in the snow. I had a 95 Subaru Impreza before this that was tiny but would plow through the snow, no problem. I love my Jeep, but will definitely go back to Subaru when the time comes

I have a 2006 Honda CR-V. LOVE it!
Pros: You're up high, it drives well, dual flip down back seats, large trunk space, highly reliable and safe. Decent gas mileage for a larger vehicle, good resale value.
Cons: carseat doesn't fit in the middle of the back seat since that seat is slightly curved and smaller than the passenger seats. Would only fit 2 carseats, not three, and even though there are 5 seatbelts, since the middle seat is so narrow, with carseats, it really only seats 4.
At some point we would like to own either a Honda Accord (for DH to commute in) or a Honda Odyssey ($$$$) as our second car. This is basically our only car right now. DH just has a beater 1999 2 door Saturn coupe... he commutes by train, so he doesn't really need a car

We have a Ford Taurus X (otherwise known as a Freestyle.) it's a SUV/crossover vehicle. We love it.
Pros - sits up higher and the seats and pedles are adustable - which is nice b/c i'm 5'3" and my DH is 5'11". it seats 7 and all the back/middle seats fold down for storage space if needed. We added a hitch to ours (aftermarket) and use it to tow - pulls pretty good. it also has traction control that you can turn on and off which helps a lot in the snow. Only slipped once in the snow in the 3 winter's we've had it and it was just slightly.
Cons - it's not the best at gas mileage - averages about 22 mpg, and when our son was rear facing the front seat had to be forward quite a bit. (and could really only be on the passenger side due to this) but a different seat might fit ok (we had a chicco brand infant seat)
Here's a link to a pic since I don't have one of mine. Ours is a 2008 model: Cars Pictures Online: Ford Taurus X 2010 Model Gallery
We also have the Ford Fusion as our second car. it has good gas mileage (27 +mpg), huge trunk, the newer models have the sensor for people in your blind spot, you can get ones with the phone and texts that come in through the dashboard, good in snow. overall really good...can't think of any negatives really. maybe that ours doesn't have adjustable pedals...not sure if you could get in on a different model.
Here's a link to see it, don't have a pic of this one either. Ours is a 2007 model, but my brother has the 2009 or 2010 and loves his too. 2012 Ford Fusion Car | View 2012 Fusion S, SE, SEL & Sport Sedans & High MPG Fusion Hybrid Vehicles, Read Reviews & More | Ford.com

I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox. It was not what I wanted (I wanted the GMC Acadia) but at the time I did not think I wanted more kids and hubby did not understand why I wanted a car that can seat 7 when I only have one child. Plus the MPG was 18-24 and the equinox can get up to 32 mpg.
So far I like it. I have never had a brand new car before this and that was nice.
OH and it can for 3 full size car seats in the back. I have put my daughter and my friends 2 girls in it just fine.

Lol... you SO don't want to see our's!
We have an old Buick sedan and a subaru station wagon. They're great, dependable cars but they are NOT pretty! I told DB that I don't care what our cars look like as long as he promises that I'll never get stranded, especially when we have a kiddo or two...

I drive a 2004 honda odyssey and I LOVE it. We are hoping to get a 12 passenger van sometime next year.
