So I had my two week post d&c follow up appointment this morning and I'm kicking myself now for not asking questions regarding the start of my next af or when my hcg will be back within the negative range. He said to expect af to return within 4-6 weeks but I don't know if he meant from today's date or the day the actual d&c was done and I know I still have hcg in my system because I took an hpt Wednesday and it still came back positive. The only thing that was clear was that 1) I can now DTD(yay!) but to be careful about preventing 2) that as soon as af does return there's no reason not to try again but that if af hasn't returned by 6 weeks to give him a call to get something to jump start things. I don't want to ask for the beta draws because it's an uncovered test by insurance and runs at $100+ per draw so I'm never going to know what my numbers were to begin with which sucks. I'm also still spotting but from what understand this is completely "normal" (none of this feels "normal" to me). So now I feel like I'm rambling and got away from the main point of this post. First question for those who have been where I am is the 4-6 weeks for af started at the time of d&c. Second question should I be poas until I get a negative or what. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated and I'm so sorry this turned into a novel..........on a side note I really need a signature for these forums.

((HUGS)) I am very sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board. As far as AF returning the normal time is 4-6 weeks from your D&C/loss but that all depends on how far along you were as well as your HCG levels. It can come earlier or take longer depending on how quickly your levels drop. You can test your HCG out of your system with HPT instead of going to the doctor but if they do not seem to be dropping like they should make sure you call your doctor and get an appointment to make sure you didn't retain tissue as that can cause an infection. We are here for you and please if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I'm so sorry for your loss and that you even need to be in the position for these questions.

4-6 weeks is from your d&c... But some people it's more like 4-8 weeks.
After my d&c I tested my hcg out with a cheap HPT's and it took 2 weeks, 2 weeks after that I got a positive opk and 2 weeks latter A/F....so 6 weeks to the day for me.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a D & C on June 6 and AF didn't show up until July 27 so it was about 7 weeks for me. My doctor has been testing my HCG levels and as of two weeks ago which would have been around 6 weeks my levels were at 4. My doctor wants to check for some reason until I reach below 2. I think you should definitley keep checking until it shows negative just to make sure no tissue was retained.

Thank you. This has been one of the most confusing and emotional experiences of my life and after three normal deliveries took me completely by surprise. I'm having a hard time shaking off the what if's and could have beens not to mention what almost seems like an overwhelming fear to even try only to go through this again. I know I'm blessed as I've been told countless times that I already have three healthy kids but it doesn't make the hurt any easier to deal with. I just hope that the hurt and anxiety ease over time.
