I am so mad right now at the hospital.
Ok here is my story.
Oct 2010 I had a D&C that resulted in $3500.00 out of my pocket. I paid $500 in Nov when I got my first bill. My phone rings the day after my check clears and it's was the hospital asking when they could expect my next payment.. OMFG Really I just paid 500.00 and you are calling me a day later?
So they put me on a payment plan and as of this month I am down to $80.00 and it is paid off as soon as the next bill comes in August.

May 2011 I had an ectopic and had to go to the hospital to just get the metheltroxate shot....almost $400 out of my pocket.
June came the first bill and i paid like $100.00 July comes another I paid $70.00 My phone just rang it is the hospital calling. "hello Lindsey you owe $190.00 on one bill and $80.00 on the other can you pay it off right now, if not when can we expect it all paid in full?"

I just lost it on this lady I said you can expect it when you get it. I said what is so wrong with how things have been paid so far? I then asked "do you have an extra $300.00 laying around for a hospital bill when you just paid about $250.00 on it this month?
I told her to keep billing as they have been and I will pay it off when I can....CLICK
I though that having $4,000 paid off in 10 months was pretty darn good so these phone calls just pushed me over the edge.

Yeah those calls are the worse especially when the bills are tied to a traumatic experience. I am so sorry that it is happening to you. You did it right and they will get paid on a monthly basis until this is paid off.

Have you bugged them about what they can do to lower it? They can usually cut some off of it. Tell them since they think they need to harass you even when you are paying it you can harass them about what kind of break they can give you.

I'm so sorry. It seems so unfair that you would have to pay that much for something so terrible and then on top of that to be called all the time about it. Hopefully you will never have to go through that again.

Yes I tried that several times last fall and it was a no go. They said they already gave me a discount (of only $150.00 woohoo big discount). They then told me I can try for finical aid, well for a family of 3 you can not make more than. $18,0000 a year.
I owed $500 to anistesiologist and was told I have 5 months from surgery date to pay it off or they will be turning me into a collector...WHAT!!!! I thought the law was as long as you pay something they can not do that.
My insurance changed too somevey dr visit even a follow up is a $35.00 co pay. We have been having issues with dr offices where they won't refill hubby's blood pressure script and makes in have a physical so they draw blood (1 day off work and $35.00 co pay) then they make him come back 1 week later because "the dr wants to discuss the results" so another day off work and $35.00 co pay just to be told all his blood work was fine and to come back in 1 year.
They did that crap to me a couple months ago and I refused to pay the co pay, because I asked the nurse on the phone If I truly need to come in and I was only coming in if something was wrong with my blood work. The nurse said well they flagged your anemic and the dr needs to see you... Well nothing was wrong so I told them I was not paying it.

I'm sorry The bills from my recent m/c felt like a total slap in the face when they arrived. I'm not entirely sure we've seen the last of them. We ended up paying around $400 out of pocket for the labs, office visits, and ultrasound. Fortunately we were able to come up with the money within the first two months, but I DID ask my dr. what kind of payment plans they could work out if I ever had something like this happen again. They said the most they will usually do is divide it up over a 4 month period, but that there are exceptions to that. When I had Josiah, the hospital was wonderful about setting up a payment plan. They flat out asked me how much I felt I could pay each month, and then calculated out how many months it would take to pay off at that rate. We were paying on his birth until right before his first birthday. I think you are doing a GREAT job paying it off. I hate medical debt... especially when it is for something like a loss

I hear about this stuff all the time and it drives me G-D bonkers. It would make more sense to do full pre-conception workups, but insurance won't cover it, so you end up with all this emotional scarring PLUS a sky-high bill to pay. This is one of those things that can put me on an "I hate America and can't believe I was ever in the military" rants.

I am paying off $5,000.00 still and each month my payments are $177.00. It is just a sick reminder of the he!! I went through for over 2 years.

((hugs)) Do not let them push you around. It is their job to get as much money back from you as soon as they possibly can. It is your job to put them in their place.

I think $4000 in 10 months is amazing. I'm sorry they're harassing you. Insurance and hospitals/doctors have gotten so out of control in this country!

Ditto! Also wanted to tell you that my DH still has well over $30,000 in medical bills from his bout with Lyme's Disease. The doctor that specializes in it does not participate with insurance. I pay them $50 a month. They can not call and harass you like then as long as your making the amount or above of what your payments are.

So sorry lindsey, getting reminded of it and having to give them copious amounts of money on top of it just sucks

Wow....That is amazing. I don't think I could have managed to pay off that much. It really sucks that you have to go through such bad things and then get a bill and phone calls to remind you.

HUGS.

I'm so sorry Lindsey. I hate bill collectors and it seems ridiculous that they call you after you pay them each month. It is especially hard paying when it was something so terrible. I think what you did was right. I would have hung up on them also.
