I've never charted... using OPK's worked like a charm for us with Josiah, and we got pregnant our first cycle of using OPK's (8th cycle overall) with the baby I m/c. But, I'm thinking I'd like to chart in addition to the OPK's this month. Do I need a basal thermometer to do it, or can I use a regular digital? Is first thing in the morning the best time to temp? I seem to remember a friend of mine telling me that. Any advice you want to give me would be appreciated!

yeah, you have to take your temp as soon as you wake up, after that your temp goes up to 98.6'ish and will stay that way until your body cools back down while sleeping.

Basil Body thermometer is the way to go, a lot of the time your temp will only fluctuate in the 100ths decimal spot and you won't be able to see the changes if your thermometer only goes to the 10ths position.

I have charted off and on since the year 2001, and realized at first that I wasn't ovulating, now I know I my body is trying to O at least once before I do. It is a great tool and I bet will give you a lot of insight to what is going on.

I agree with Ami and don't have anything to add. I just wanted to say good luck! Getting into the routine of temping can be difficult, but once you're in the rhythm, it gets easier.

I'm still up at least a few times a night with Josiah... does that change when I would take the temp?

in order to get an accurate temp you need at least 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep before you take your temp. if he wakes a set time say 4am and he hasn't woken you since midnight, I'd say temp then, rather than trying to temp at 6am or whatever time you wake up for the day.
