Okay ladies so a little background:
I was in a car accident on July 8th. Went to the ER the next morning (July 9th). They did X-rays and sent me home saying it was "badly bruised/sprained". Went home and an hour later the phone rang and it was the ER doctor. He then said that he looked over the X-rays and that it is broken, went back in and got a cast on. July 11th went to the Orthopedic doctor. He sent me for an MRI and put a brace on. Went for the MRI on July 14th. Went back to the Ortho doctor July 18th and he said I had ligament damage and sent me to a hand specialist. August 4th saw 1st hand specialist. They said I had a torn ligament and that I needed surgery. The outcome of the surgery wouldn't be good so I said I wanted a second opinion. The doctor then said they would put it in a cast for 6 weeks and then I would go back (didn't understand this). So I got a cast on and decided it was time to find another doctor and get a second opinion.
Fast forward to today:
I had an AMAZING appointment. The doctor was an hour late seeing me but it was well worth the wait. He looked over everything, all my x-rays and MRI. He then starts showing me them and explaining it all to me. He told me that he would NOT recommend me for the surgery at this time. He thinks that the risk of me not being able to use my hand fully after the surgery out-weighs the positives so we decided at this point no surgery. He said that the cast was stupid and was not helping me any and cut it off (YAY). He then made me a special brace and told me to try and wean myself out of it as I feel comfortable. If I get worse then call right away but other than that I go back in a month to re-evaluate the situation. **WAHOO**
Sorry I didn't update sooner. My cell phone died, we didn't get out of the doctors office until 1:30 and then DH and I decided to go for a late lunch and then we just walked around a mall. Just got home so that's my update. Thank you ladies so much for thinking of me. It is so much easier to type with this brace on so >>>> I'M BACK<<<<

Waaahooo!! Great news Katie!! Some doctors just want to milk money out of your pocket. Great that you went for a second opinion, well worth it.

Thanks ladies! It is such a relief to not have a cast on my arm. I felt instant relief the moment he took it off. And I am very glad that I do not need surgery at the moment. He did say I will down the road probably need a surgery but he said that could be many years from now
