I was thinking how to break up with my doc... I know I mentioned this a whiles back but did not do it....
Do you just call the office and say you want your files transferred to the new doc because you are switching?...
Would you make another appointment to see your doctor and say that you thank him for all that he is doing but you decided to go else where?... (may have a co-pay)
Do you just go to your new doctor and try to have them get the files from your old doctor and not call him to say that you are leaving??????
ugh......

I'd probably just call the other doctor, and have them request my files. If the office calls then tell them you decided to seek another opinion, but you appreciate all they have done.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I don't think they will release your files to another doctor without your written consent (or at least that is what I have always been told). I would just call the office and request a copy of your file. If they start asking questions then I would just indicate that another doctor wants to review your entire health history. They don't really need to know any more than that IMO.

I have switched doctors in the past and that's how I've done it. I've never had a doctor call and ask why I switched so I never had to explain it to them.
Good luck!!! I hope you find a doctor who fits you!! It really is very important!!

I just went to my new doctor's office and signed a release so they got my records for me. I didn't actually tell me doctor because I didn't want bad blood there if by chance I ever wanted to return.

You will have to sign something no matter what- it's easier to sign something from the new doctor and have them request the records. But it depends on the office. My peri's office actually has the records release forms on their website so you can easily print it out fill in the doctors names and info. But they are much more used to sharing information back and forth.

This is what I did a few years ago. The new doctor requested the files. I never heard from the old doctor again. Good luck!

Thank You ladies!
I did it... I called and made my appointment with another ob/gyn doctor. I don't see him till Sept 7th... What a long wait... I asked that if there were any cancellations to let me know... I really hope that this works out.... If I get my friend before then I think that I would just scream..... B/c then it may be too late to take meds like clomid or somethiing.... Cycle day 43 and 2 weeks wait to see the doc is really cutting it close for AF.
oh BTW... you think it's a bad sign if during the appointment setting the secretary was talking loudly to another worker while on the phone with me?... Nerves are getting to me... i tell yeah.....

I hope you get to see them before AF arrives. I know the first cycle though they ran a bunch of tests and didn't start me on the meds until my next cycle.

For doctor's offices to release your records to another doctor's office you will need to get a medical consent release form from the new doctor you will visit and fill it in and fax the doctor's office you want to leave.
Good luck and hope you will be seen by the new doctor soon.

I try not to date my doctors. Especially since most of them are female.

While we were ttc our second I made the decision to leave the OB (Dr Stabby) who delivered my first.
I called and asked what I needed to do to get my records. After I sent in my written request for a copy to be sent to the new midwife, and being told I would be charged $1/page no matter what. A few days went by and I got a call for the doctor herself. Who didn't identify herself on the phone.
She asked me why I was leaving. I told her it was because they had dropped my insurance (which was true) but also because I didn't think the doctor would allow me to VBAC if/when we had another - then she said "this is "the doctor'" well, F-me!
anyway, she tried to dissuade me from leaving. It was very uncomfortable, I am so glad I left that practice.
