So, we need food, for reasons not related to the hurricane - I don't need the toilet paper and milk and batteries that everyone else seems to think they suddenly need. However, I need food because we are running short. I am scared to go to the store today, but have no choice, anyone wanna go for me - lol!
BTW, do the people that are buying milk not realize if the power goes out and they don't have some sort of backup refrigeration, the gallons of milk will go bad?? HAHA! And the TP, what is that about, did you suddenly realize you were about to run out or do you plan to use that to sop up all of the water that is going to rain down on us? Thoughts for the day - hehe!
Hope everyone stays safe! I am still hoping it will veer off into the ocean, only to drop a few drops of rain on us...I may have to boat into work on Monday!

Lol they do but this winter I will be prepared. Last year we had the blizzard and I had only half a roll of TP DH was freaking out and I told him I had 2 boxes of tissues that would just have to work. This winter I plan to have some extra of the essentials but not like some of the people. I had people rip food out of my hands last year on several occasions because "It was going to snow".

Lol I wasn't really worried because we had tissues and I'm quite resourceful and would have figured something else out. There are a lot of people that move to this area and freak out because of the weather. I'm quite used to it since I lived here all my life. People do amaze me with the things they do.

The snow is crazy too - why do you need 5 gallons of milk, they will go bad anyways, because there is no way you are going to drink that much before we can dig our way out! It doesn't take 3 months to get out of your neighborhood, no matter how much snow we get! We got out in 3 or 4 days after the 3 feet we got...haha!
Slow your rolls people...haha!
Oh, and I am making DH go with me...I need the moral support - lol!

I'd rather speed through the store. DH hates crowds and would complain the whole time. I'm just going to grab a few things we really need and I'll get the rest early next week

HAHA, my DH is much better than I am at getting in and out quickly - he keeps me on track and we split up to get everything faster, so it works for us. Actually, he has been doing most of the shopping lately, because he can get it done so much faster. I am the one that stands in the aisle and tries to decide if I need the bigger (sometimes less expensive) jar of pasta sauce or if I should stick with the smaller one - this can literally take me 15 minutes...then I have to compare prices on everything. For him, he can do it like 2 minutes flat and figure out what is the best deal, etc. He is super shopper
Good luck to everyone that has to brave the store in the hurricane area!

I'm definitely staying away from the store today. Walmart was crazy enough yesterday and of course they were only out of the things I needed...which were all non-hurricane related things. The grocery store here will be a nightmare. It's bad enough with all the tourists still here, but if you add on crazed people freaked out about the hurricane then it'll be too much for me to handle.
That is such a good point about the milk and potential power outages. Unless you have a generator, it really doesn't make sense.
I would totally panic if I only had a 1/2 roll of TP!
I really hope everyone stays safe!!

I've never understood the milk/TP phenomenon. Bread was another thing people stocked up on, but that makes more sense.

I can't decide whether to be amazed or just amused at the way people are reacting to this storm. I grew up in Louisiana where hurricanes were just a fact of life, but I guess in general because of that we were more prepared for them. The vast majority of people have generators, always keep bottled water on hand, have materials to board up windows etc.

I have a fear of running out of TP for some reason. I would have really freaked out Katie if I got snowed in and only had a half roll of TP. Since I am scared of running out I always have a stock pile of TP. The stores around here have already been crazy with all the college kids moving back in.

OH yeah the water and bread shelves are wiped out around here! I normally go grocery shopping on Fridays too, but I went yesterday because of the storm and it was crazy. I'm just glad I already had some water (we drink bottled because our well water is icky). A generator is a must out where we live so we just made sure to have plenty of gas on hand.

we never have hurricanes over here but no way you'll catch me without TP
Every time we go we buy around 4 packs - ok they serve us for a month, but believe me once we reach the last pack (each pack has 12 rolls) I start to freak out!!! DH makes so fun of me and it makes me feel really stupid but without my stash of TP I feel lost I'ld rather not have any opk's or pg tests than no TP

Around where this one is to hit most of the places aren't "built" for hurricane weather. I think that is why a lot of people are freaking out. I know here if we get the kind of wind they are talking about there are going to be people with homes basically blowing apart. There really aren't any homes where people have generators around here. There is nothing really you can do other than have the stuff at hand but it's scary none-the-less.

People here rush the stores even if the weatherman says to expect a dusting of snow and schools close over an inch of snow. Since I live in the middle of Ga so the threat from an actual hurricane impact is minimal but we do have rare occasions where we get the flooding and TS force winds and the people probably flock to the stores then as well.....I wouldn't know since I'm not one of "those" people lol.

What part of Louisiana? I was born and raised in Lake Charles so I know what you mean.
Tornados and hurricanes here are a part of life. Since we moved to the Houston area nothing has really changed. When people stock up here before a storm, they stock up on water, batteries, and canned goods. I have never see people buy out milk in the stores. My childhood home (still my dad's house) has a well and we had to always fill the tubs up with water for when the electricity went out. The well pump is run on electricity so we'd be SOL on using the toilet otherwise. Plus it helps to wash hands and what not. Lol.
With that being said, everyone stay safe in the storm. I have a feeling that it will slow down once it hits cooler waters. Let's just pray that it does.
