Today I had to phone the ob to ask about for how many days I should keep on taking Follistim and he surprised me by saying that he was thinking about doing an IUI (which has never even been discussed with us). Then he kept on telling me that it would hurt while he would be doing it but at the end decided that since I did manage to get preg on my own he should not do it for now.

So now my question is - he said that I would be in pain - what type of pain are we talking about here? Is it bearable? Does it last long? (btw I had my HSG when I was knocked out as he was doing my lap so I didn't feel a thing)

I don't know whether it would help our chances to get preg or not - this is the first month that I've used injectibles so I need all the help (and info I can get my hands on) in order to weigh the pros and cons of whether to ask him to do it or not.

?? I am not sure what he is talking about. I had an IUI and felt no pain. It pinched when the tube went in but honestly we are talking less pain then pinching yourself.

Do you want to do an IUI? If you are using injectibles I have heard it does increase your chances of getting pregnant.

I don't have the faintest idea missy. Actually he surprised me when he mentioned it. DH and I discussed it already (about whether I should do it or not) and we decided that unless I get pg this month, mostly next month we're going to ask for it - even if according to him it is painful.

I'm not 100% sure about what i want to do or not at this stage. Actually I'm not even all that happy about doing Follistim, but since I don't want to risk my eyesight I had to resort to it.

mm if it actually increases the chance I'll re-discuss this with DH and see what ob says as well. To tell the truth I've been worrying a bit about the 'pain' coz usually everything is painless according to him so for him to say that it is painful he alarmed me a bit

I'm doing IUI on Tuesday, and I've read a lot about it... never heard that it was painful...pinching, a bit uncomforable - yea...but painful? no, only if the doctor stinks at what he is doing

oh it's more of the opposite. He's very good at what he does, in fact he's getting a rather good reputation (which is not easy over here). Maybe the procedure is done differently here. I dunno. I guess i have to ask him about what type of pain he was talking about

Dh and I did an IUI in June of 2010. The IUI didn't hurt at all. I don't know what your doctor is talking about when he said it might hurt. I was on Follistim also. We got pg from the IUI but sadly that was our first lost also.

We really don't know what to do. Our plan is mainly see what he's going to say when we go for the appointment and then decide. I guess it's useless deciding on our own at this stage.

Thanks girls for all the advice. Knowing that it doesn't hurt is helping DH and I steer ourselves towards the IUI way

(Thanks Katie xxx)

I had also heard it wasn't painful. I'm curious to see what type of pain he is talking about. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope that no matter what, you get blessed soon!

Thanks sweetie

I'm curious as well. Usually he brushes off all types of pain so I really want to see what he is going to say. I'll keep you all updated (I'm just hoping that he will make us go for an appointment now and not just tell me to trigger)

My IUI was quite painful because my cervix was very tightly closed and I'd never been pregnant. After my pregnancy loss, I had the same kind of catheter for a saline sonogram and it didn't hurt at all. Even if it hurts, the pain is only going to last a minute so I wouldn't let it deter you.

ATM I'm talking to a friend of mine who had IUI's done. She just told me that it takes 30 mins to get it done

I guess it really varies from doing thing over here to the US, so that leave me only with one option: discuss this with him.

We simplu can't decide about what to do at this stage
